The hotel was a great experience.
The hotel was a great experience. We went there to visit the US Army Garrison Hart and Bismarck concerns. The hotel is where my father stayed during his transition there, it is exactly the same as he described it. I liked the pedestrian areas the best. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to explore the walks along the river... I loved the glockenspiel tune from the Rathaus. I found a nice tavern like place to eat that had an English menu very close to the Rathaus. The forests around the area and Schwabisch Hall which I preferred to Gmund. We ate at Columbia Ristorante which is excellent with friendly and efficient staff. Fantastic pizzas and probably the best in town. Ristorante La Trattoria was very good. The Indian Restaurant near the cathedral is excellent but I cannot remember the name. Only takes cash. Not easy to get around by car due to one way and very narrow streets, especially finding Hotel Pelikan. Fine for walking though.

I was stationed in the army there, from 1968 to 1970 for 2 1/2 years. I had forgotten how beautiful the area was. The downtown has really gone through a transformation. It was great to return for the first time in almost 50 years!!

Despite that parking is available! We arrived early after my friends flew in from America. They were extremely tired and we were kindly met before check-in time and shown to our rooms. Much appreciated. The rooms were comfortable and unique. Breakfast is lovely and the person serving breakfast even more so. Very nice! Will definately book again!

The room was clean and had just enough space and storage, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the food reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The playground was perfect to entertain our son in our down time. The hotel is centrally located so you can walk to some local places and a short taxi ride from the city center, but you could take a bus or walk, too. We will stay here again when we come back.

However, the view from the rooftop bar is even better! Breathtaking landscape around Schwäbisch Gmünd, as well as the city can be looked at while sipping a drink and sitting comfortably in the shade of umbrellas. Huge beach-bar vibes and definitely worth another visit.

The distance to the old city center is a pleasant 5 minutes walking along the rover and the gardens.
