With more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined and over 2,300 bridges, Hamburg is an independent city-state with Europe’s second-busiest port and one of Germany's most popular soccer teams, Hamburg SV.
No trip to Hamburg is complete without a visit to the city’s old warehouse district, Speicherstadt, and the popular harbor promenade, the Landungsbrücken. The best and most popular way to explore the city is by boat or ferry so you can truly admire the stunning architecture and the city’s waterways.
The impressive City Hall and the popular St. Michaelis church will awe any visitor, and music fans should look for the Indra and the Star Club, where the Beatles played between 1960 and 1962. For a different look at Hamburg, moonlit strolls on the Reeperbahn will bring visitors through the largest red light district in Europe. Hamburg is famous for its local dishes, Birnen, Bohnen and Speck, Aalsuppe and open-faced sandwiches with cold-smoked or pickled fish. The laid-back cafés of Schanze neighborhood and barbecues on a beach along the Elbe River are great ways to relax after a day of sightseeing.
The city center is accessible from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport and Hamburg-Lübeck Airport using either train or bus services. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel, traditional apartment or youth hostel, Booking.com has everything you need for a vacation in Hamburg.
Hamburg was a surprise. It's not a tourist city as such, I mean they have things to see and tour buses, but it's not the mainstay by any means (no tourist tat shops gives that away!) This is a working port town in one part and an absolutely stunning old town/commercial centre on the other.
The retail opportunities are fabulous so this would be a recommended visit for a shopping trip.
Culturally, there are things to see. We visited the Rathaus and Kunsthalle for example and found these very interesting.
There's history mixed with a lot of new and as mentioned, it's a working town so old buildings and canals with new high rise office blocks. Super clean and easy to get about though. Walk or cycle, don't bother with the train if you're staying in the centre.
One thing to avoid would be Reeperbarn as its tacky, full of cheap bars and sex based options (unless that's your plan for a trip there).
All in all, I would go back again. Shopping and socialising in the city centre are key. Go when it's warm to make the most of the abundant cafe culture outside.

The city was a lot bigger than I thought and I wished I'd have had more time. The local people and police force are very friendly and helpful - most speak English. The train service, throughout the City, to and from the main airport is excellent.

Its really a city that seems to have a lot of tourists.
Its really a city that seems to have a lot of tourists. The train were easily accessible especially during the day time. We enjoy a park close to hotel Keese. We spent sometime there walking around and sitting down for fresh air, eat and drink.
Avoid checking in late to your hotel if you dont have wifi on your phone. Try to check in when staff are still on site.

A lot to see and to do.
A lot to see and to do. Very nice and funny people, great hospitality. The canal cruise is a real recommendation. Eating and drinking is very good (and not too expensive). The Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall is a must see. Line 62 boat is also a recommendatation, you just sit and look at the harbor from the river Elbe. If you travel a lot with the public transport in Hamburg we would recommend the Hamburg Card. For diner we can recommend the Portuguese quarter!

Although Hamburg was severely destroyed by WWII bombs, this city keeps destroying buildings and sites from the early 20th and 19th century that were spared by the bombs. There is less and less left of what has made this city unique. The last example is Sternbrücke and buildings around it although it was a protected structure!
The room delivered all that were expected, well furnished, good bed, clean and all needed armenities available. Breakfast very well, something for anyone and a good variety, nice breakfast restaurant. Location suited us perfect and were chosen exactly for the purpose, very close to the Cruise Ship terminal in Hamburg. We did not look for scenic views from the hotel, such does not exist, but a nice, clean and easy access, arriving in the evening and departing with a cruise ship in the morning.
Cosmin was extremely helpful from check in to check out! So friendly and went out of his way to help us make sure our flixbus reservation was not moved. Niclas and Harleen were also extremely helpful. Each of them went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed in the hotel (and out of it) to make our trip to Germany as good as can be. Give them all raises, especially Cosmin! Cosmin, add me on Instagram so we can hang out next time I come visit! Ig: anorawallpaper
Beautiful old building divided into different hotels on every floor. A lift is provided. The area is the most beautiful in Hamburg, very exclusive neighbourhood. There are restaurants scattered but also a short walk to cafes, supermarket, hairdresser, ect.
The staff are wonderfully kind, and delightful and go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect .
It is also a 5 min walk to Dammtor Train station which has trains departing all over Germany and Europe.
The hotel is conveniently located near the main railway station (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof), only in 3 minutes on foot. Nearby lots of cafés and restaurants, shops, malls etc. In a 5-minute walk, you can observe amazing Alster Lake.
The hotel is pretty small, but rooms are clean and furnished. Nice breakfast with typical European (Germany) food buns, eggs (scrambled, boiled), sausages, cheese, musli, tomatoes, cucumbers, and tinned fruit, coffee, tea, juices.
had a great stay, breakfast was super and the staff were very friendly plus having a bus stop outside the hotel was very handy, all you needed was to take the number 13 bus to the local train station which took only 5 minutes, then to take the S3 train into Hamburg centre which took about 20 minutes, we left the car in the hotel car park the hole stay and only payed €2 for parking, The local services made our stay alot easier that way
It's a reliable and pretty basic hotel in Hamburg. One stop away from the central station, with direct trains to/from the airport and city centre.
Breakfast was an "experience", i.e. if you order a deli slice for your bread, they will literally only give you one small deli slice unless you specifically ask for more, but otherwise it was okay. Room got cleaned everyday, location is very convenient, the bar staff was friendly :)
This is a very special place - it combines hotel facilities with an old people's home, to everyone's benefit. The facilities are great (kids loved the swimming pool), the rooms are big and spacious. The hotel is located next to one of the most amazing zoos in Europe and next to a metro station, so you can be in city centre in 15 minutes. The breakfast buffet was fine as well, as was the restaurant.
THE GEORGE is for sure one of the best boutique style hotels in hamburg. in combination with it`s restaurant / bar "da caio" it offers a incredible combination. this bar is the hot spot to be on weekends with a stylish atmosphere for excellent cocktails and fantastic food selection. and the location just steps away from the "aussenalster" , a beautiful city central lake is simply stunning.
This is a very green outer suburb of Hamburg with some lovely Jugendstil villas and some attractive walks are available nearby (if a local, as in my case, can point them out). There are regular trains into the centre and also a bus service. The hotel is in easy walking distance of the rail and bus stations, as well as close to the shops and restaurants of this district.
The breakfast was fine with decent selection, nothing too big, but good enough.
The location is very good for car travels since it is very easy to get to the city centre from hotel. Also car park is relatively spacious and there were enough free parking spots even though we have arrived very late. For electric cars there are many chargers available.
A great choice for anyone who wants to discover the centre of Hamburg. We spent three nights here and it was a great experience. You don't have to deal with parking as the underground garages are part of the hotel. We also enjoyed a great breakfast on the terrace.... highly recommended!
The staff were welcoming and assisted with parking. The hotel is in a great location for that part of town and walkable to the centre. The room was big and clean. It is not a cute or quaint place but rather a safe place to base a visit of Hamburg from.
The hotel staff are very friendly and supportive. Breakfast is decent with plenty of food and drinks to select. The hotel is located opposite to the Hamburg central railway station, which is very convenient in terms of public transportation.
Very nice and comfortable hotel nearby Hamburg Central Station, with very good breakfast and easy check in and check out. If you plant to stay hear for few days for work and for conference it's the right play to choose this hotel.
The Chromecast function of the TV. That was actually the best thing ever. All hotels should offer this function in their TV's. Specially in Germany, the dubbing sort of ruins the whole experience of watching a movie.
Fritz was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Really recommend this cute little hotel tucked right in the centre of Hamburg. Lots of bars and restaurants walking distance from the hotel.
I’ve heard that people in Hamburg are friendlier than those in other parts of Germany and I found this to be true. The staff at CAB20 were very friendly, warm and welcoming.
The breakfast is amazing, has a lot of options. The stuff is very kind and accommodated all our needs. The hotel is always my choice every time I'm visiting Hamburg.
