It's the third time this year I have been to Bad Bentheim.
It's the third time this year I have been to Bad Bentheim. All for short visits with friends and family on cycling holidays.
It's a cracking little gem of a town just of the border from Holland.
Easily accessible by road, rail and bike. The railway station is on the DB main ICE line between Amsterdam and Berlin and there are plenty of local rail services from Hengelo in Holland. Although the town centre is quite small it has a great castle that overlooks the town and is definitely worth a visit. There is also the city park and surrounding woodlands that off various walks and cycling options.
There are plenty of shops for supplies with several supermarkets and retail stores.
Also, some wonderful local restaurants and bars in the town centre.

Bad Bentheim is a nice town, but not much friendly to tourists. Shops and restaurants close early, which is especially strange on Saturdays. For instance the bike renting shop closed at 1300h, so we had to hurry to get back in time.

The castle and the park surrounding it are amazing.
The castle and the park surrounding it are amazing. Unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 restrictions it was not possible to visit the interior of the castle neither to enjoy the small coffee shops near by.

This is a small, quiet place, great for relaxation.
This is a small, quiet place, great for relaxation. There are 2 places where you can swim, one from Roompot which is very full and small, the other one is a spa and there you can relax properly. There is also a nice castle in town. Enough restaurants for dinner (Mriko's Steakhouse and the Tonino restaurant are the best), also few caffes for a good breakfast.

A very charming small town. The castle is a must to visit.
A very charming small town. The castle is a must to visit. Also (providing you have good German) it's worth doing the Nachtwanderung - offered several nights a week by the tourist office. The Sandstone Museum, the Museum on Herrenberg (Dutch art), and the Otto Pankok museum (about 5 miles away) are all worth visiting. One thing though is that, other in the castle, you will not find much information in English.
There are also plenty of places for coffee and cakes in the afternoon or for a beer and meal (open air in the warm weather) at night. It's not however a place for night life: they don't have a theatre or a cinema and the local film club gets a film in once a month.
I'd definitely recommend this if you want somewhere quiet but interesting and providing you have some German.
The host was a real super host. Fabian will do anything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. He was always very responsive to any questions you might have. The appartment it self was very cosy and had everything you needed. The location was near central, where you can find all the bakery, restaurants, bars, shops etc... and the fact that you are allowed to park just for the appartment is an ease. Whenever I need to go back to Bad Bentheim, I 'll stay at Fabians place again without any doubt!
What a fantastic stay! Our host was very friendly and accommodating to our changing travel plans. The apartment is modern, well appointed, with everything you need for a comfortable stay including very good Internet. Located on a working dairy farm, it is a beautiful setting and perfect place for a quiet getaway, a short 10 minute drive or 20 minute bicycle ride from Bad Bentheim and other local towns with shopping and restaurants.
- Suitably located near the centre of Bad Bentheim
- Nice house with a beautiful garden and a place to relax
- Kitchen and rooms were equipped with essentials.
- Owner of this place gave us a warm welcome and a send off. For our anniversary, she also gifted us a nice bottle of wine.
Very nice apartment, just a few steps away from the historic city center of Bad Bentheim. The apartment feels like home. It has a great view, it is cozy and is decorated with love. It has all the amenities you want. And last but not least, the hosts are very friendly.
Super helpful staff, clean and comfortable and a peaceful location. Good secure storage for bicycles.
Bad Bentheim centre, castle and park was only a short walk from the hotel. Also, some nice woodland trails and cycle paths nearby. Great value for money.
Lovely host, nice location and super cute and clean apartment! Bad Bentheim is a lovely small town and very close to Nordhorn and the Netherlands. My doggie got lots of cuddles from the host as well.
Location was excellent with view over the fields. Suite was very spacious (hotel gave us an upgrade). Abundant availability of towels in the bathroom. Walking possibilities around the hotel.
Room and bathroom are large and with nice forniture. Breakfast is really plentiful and the swimming poll is very nice. If I go back to that area I will book this hotel again for sure.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Interesting conversion of a railway station. We stayed one night while cycle touring and the hotel had an excellent locked garage to store the bikes in.
Very clean establishment, even when compared to stateside hotels of which don’t clean the rooms unless requested, it was a norm to have the rooms cleaned daily without a request.
Excellent family run cosy, quiet hotel at best location walking distance to the castle yet in the countryside, Staff is very friendly. I definitely recommend it !!!
I like the location of the hotel. Everything from food, bars and the castle were within walking distances. My hotel view of the wind turbines was a nice touch too
Wonderful location in a quiet neighbourhood, peaceful, view from the balcony to the woods, lovely area. Visit to the castle of Bad Bentheim highly recommended!
