A huge long beach, Zicatela is a lovely place but will change very soon with all the development and construction going on.
Already lots of bars, restaurants, shops and hotels, but still relatively chilled at the moment.
Beware of what you carry, police search anyone they can on the beach to extort money!!

Even if a relatively small town the neighbourhoods are very different; Centro where the hotel is, more local people, Bacocho (a bit more hipster was my impression), Zicatela the touristic part with a lovely beach and Brisas de Zicatela where its mostly backpackers and surfers (its just off Punta Zicatela where the best waves are)

It grew on me. I didn't love it at first.
It grew on me. I didn't love it at first. I think its more suited to younger people than people in their mid 40s + who have already done the backpacking thing. Also I live on a beautiful beach in Australia so it's hard to be impressed by grey sand of Zacatelas beach.. However Carrizalillo beach was beautiful. I recommend visiting that beach while you are there.
I felt like a bit of a sellout as Puerto is not the real mexico, there are more Australians and Americans there than Mexicans it seems. So if you want an authentic Mexican experience you should go to Puebla or Mexico city, but if your looking for a chilled vibe on the beach then you will probably like Puerto.
You'll find better food in other parts of the country also - Oaxaca city, Meixco city, Puebla etc.
It's very hot there. but there's nothing much else to do than hang at the beach.

Overall was great trip.
Overall was great trip. The town feels more international compared to other places I’ve visited in mexico, it lacks that authentic Mexican feeling. The hotel was great, tucked away from the Main Street, very peaceful.

Best falafels and hummus et El Sultan on the Rinconada.
Best falafels and hummus et El Sultan on the Rinconada. Best whole bean coffee as well as cappuccino and cookies at Binisa Cafe. As expats living in San Agustinillo, an hour away, we find things in Puerto that we cannot find in San Agustinillo, Mazunte, or Zipolite. We found some really excellent sharp cheddar cheese at Super 69 grocery on the Rinconada, cans of white meat whole tuna packed in water also at Super 69, bought beautiful Talavera tile for our bathroom at the Talavera store on the Rinconada, and picked up health food products like chia at one of the many small health food stores in Puerto that sell bulk goods.

I can’t wait to go back to this hotel! Puerto Escondido is a paradise and we enjoyed it even more in this hotel. The staff is attentive and kind, most of the waiters and waitresses knew our names and they were always willing to make everything better for us. The rooms, the facilities and the food were incredible! We went to yoga classes in the morning and the afternoon, the teachers were always checking on us and at the end they gave us this delicious ginger shots. We also took massages and they were so relaxing!
We had an absolutely perfect stay at Villas Carrizalillo! It was our first time in Puerto Escondido and we would stay here again if/when we come back.
The view was breathtaking from our room (Escondido), the common areas, and the restaurant. Our room remained cool from outside temperatures and we greatly appreciated the water pressure.
The on-site restaraunt was fantastic for days we didn’t feel like venturing into town.
The staff were exceptionally helpful. We enjoyed every interaction.
A quiet little paradies, you never wanna leave!! Me and my friend read all the good reviews and were curious. We arrived with a food poisoning from Mexico city and everyone was so caring and lovely, that we felt welcome and cosy from the first day. The villa is quiet and idyllic, it’s more like a big community space with pool, roof top terrace and great to meet your little crew for further puerto activities.
We feel really lucky, we found this place and ate already planning to come back :)
Everything was great, this place is a little oasis in la Punta. The bungalow is super clean and with a great chill out balcony with hamac and view on the jungle garden. The place is really close to the lively streets of Punta but nicely located far away from the noise. The staff is super friendly and helpful. As a female solo traveler I felt safe to walk around at night following the staff instructions. I will definitely stay there again if I have the luck to come back to puerto escondido.
There are many negative reviews about this property. I disagree. It’s a budget hotel with a budget price—hard to find along the Pacific coast. True there is traffic but I was on the ground floor and it was no problem. True the pillows aren’t the best but ok. Fan was fine. Didn’t need AC. It was clean, room service every day, nice shower, lady at reception was very nice.
The laundry was inexpensive. Was a god send for me. Best value for the price I have found along the coast.
Hotelito Swiss oasis really does love up to its name as a nice little refuge just off the zicatela strip. I loved sitting by the amazing pool during the mid day to stave off the heat. The hosts are absolutely lovely people who go out of their way to help guests with their needs. If I come back to Puerto Escondido I'll be staying here for sure. Oh and the beds are really comfy and nice air con in the rooms for sleeping at night! 😻
The staff, the beautifully decorated rooms and rooftop hammocks to relax in. This boutique hotel has such a relaxed and warm, welcoming vibe. I first stayed in Casa Beu in January and had to come here again for my second visit to Puerto Escondido. It's close to the main street in La Punta but far enough away for a quiet night's sleep. I almost don't want to let the secret out on how awesome this place is ;)
it’s my favorite hostel in Mexico. I came here 4 times already and enjoyed it a lot. the family and guys who work there are so gorgeous. the beds are comfortable, everything is clean. it’s relaxing and next to some awesome beaches, shops and well located. the hostel made Christmas and New Years special an welcome .
would have loved to stay longer and recommend it to everyone. thanks grands and family 😘
Leo, Guillermo, and Mati are amazing!! Mati received is in Puerto Escondido and was very communicative about the area and services.
Guillermo provided great service and was easy to talk to.
Leo and staff created amazing food everyday!!
We were a little hesitant to book here but the experience was amazing! From. The moment we arrived it was so beautiful and peaceful. We will definitely return!!
This was my favorite stay in Mexico. i had the private room. I spent over double on other boutique hotels but they didn’t compare in value. very clean, housekeeping every day. ac amazing. staff very helpful and speaks English. has a kitchen & common area where you can meet others. can walk to 3 beaches, chedraui, zicatela or riconada. near bus & transport depots.
Loved our stay here! the apartment was huge with everything you need for your stay, kitchen had everything you need and a huge lounge area. The bedroom and bathroom were also huge, beds were super comfy. location was great so close to bars and restaurants. our favourite accommodation so far in Mexico, would def recommend! staff also v.friendly and helpful
The room was nice, but the pool/bar area was amazing! The hammocks next to the pool were very relaxing. The vibe was very chill and the kitchen was cute. We had a problem with the toilet not flushing and they fixed it in less than 30 minutes, right away! Overall, one of the best stays in mexico.
The room had A/C and a fan which was paramount during the 90 degF, 80% humidity we were experiencing while in Puerto Escondido. The room was very clean—the maids were excellent! The pool has a lovely, tropical vibe and plenty of shady spots to chill in. The staff was kind, helpful, & attentive.
From the staff to the facilities and everything in between this place is a home away from home. The Wednesday night BBQ is a highlight and makes for a memorable evening. If you're looking for a no frills high quality stay be sure to check out Villa BONOBO next time your in Puerto Escondido.
this place is amazing.
it was one of the best hostel i’ve done in mexico.
i prefered to stay in this area than the others (la punta or zicatela)
more peaceful and calm
if you are looking for party you should definitely go to theses area.
