Clean, Comfortable bed, good working a/c. large enough space with ability to hang stuff up. Safe enclosed location, with enclosed parking within their garden area.. that was really nice. It was nice to have fresh coffee and some bread (loaf cake and croissant type bread) in the morning provided. It was next door to the OXXO which is a clean market (like a 7-11). It was only a 5 minute drive to Chichen Itza parking lot so it was super convenient for getting an early start to the day.

Get there early and head to the Osuary complex so you can have it all to yourself. Most people go the other way. The night show was cool, but not required, the daytime is a requirement for every explorer!

Stay in Valladolid and drive-- or better yet stay in Piste- and walk to the ruins and get there when they open at 8am. On the Sunday morning we arrived at 830am, there were less than 25 people that we could see-- total-- and no vendors yet. Our photos of the main pyramids have literally zero other people in the background, and we saw lots of colorful birds and enjoyed the empty grounds.
By the time we left at 11:30am, there were 3 or 4 thousand people there, mostly arriving on tour buses from Cancun, and the vendors were aggressive and noisy and it was less appealing of a destination. YES get there as early as possible.

Always impressive to visit but too crowded and touristy the last couple of times. The parking lot was only available for tour vans and buses so struggled outside to find a parking spot. Had to walk 600 meters to get to the ticket booth. Next time I'd go as early as they open to avoid crowds, heat and parking issues.

Chichen Itza is amazing!
Chichen Itza is amazing! Well worth suffering the heat and bugsI (even in February)
There are lots of vendors selling their wares. I've read that they are not usually handmade, which would explain why so many things were only ONE Dollar! Heard someone say not to buy wooden masks etc as they would not pass customs.
Bring: hat, bug spray, sunblock, water.
C.I. is very isolated. There are tour buses that take you from Cancun to CI.
It's a full day and usually about $120 dollars. Be careful not to confuse dollars and mexican pesos. At this time the peso is about 20 cents so 100 pesos is $5 dollars. I recommend bringing a debit card and some mexican $. ( Can be purchased beforehand at AAA)
Wear sturdy closed toe shoes as it is very dusty and rocky. No stairs, however. If you take a tour, they will feed you lunch about 2 pm. Bring snacks if you are accustomed to eating lunch earlier.
Be on top of your email and messages as the tour originally said they would pick me up at my hotel, but changed to another hotel the day prior to the tour.
If you don't take a tour, I would rent a car. Bus and taxi connections aren't the best. I took a taxi from Mayalands hotel to Valladodid for about $35. Then I took a bus to Cancun central bus station, then a taxi to the airport. I spent about $75 and it took the better part of the day.
Taxi's from Mayalands to the airport run about $200 US.
BTW, the tour takes you to a cenote where you can swim. Bring your suit and a towel, plus water shoes. The trek at ILKIL was about 100 stairs and slippery.
One last thing, as of February 2022, one must wear a mask in Mexico ALL THE TIME.

It’s definitely worth it booking a tour guide as there’s so many details that need to be pointed out in order to appreciate the experience. Though most guides seemed to be asking for 900 pesos, which felt too steep. So we were actually very lucky to find a guide called Miguel who goes around in a little car (as he’s disabled), who charged us 500 pesos and gave us an amazing tour.
Also, you’ll find there’s LOTS of art & souvenirs for sale, and they’ll quote you double the price if you can’t speak Spanish… so I’d suggest waiting until the end and buying whatever you like after you’ve seen all the stalls and haggle!

This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained.
This ancient Mayan ruin is well preserved and maintained. Kukulcan is amazing but you cannot access or climb it. Doing this ruin with a guide was essential as the experience would have been much less without the knowledge a guide has.
This location allows you to take advantage of the archaeological site just at your back door and the Hotel offers an amazing view of the ruin observatory from your room...for an additional cost. We took the tour from Cancun to Chichen itza, last time visited and were not able to see the night show extravaganza (in Spanish) because of logistics for driving. We also visited a couple of the cenotes and the local town of Piste which is very traditional and pleasant at night for dining at local restaurants. Security to hotel was above par.
Our stay at the Mayan Bungalow at Chichen Itza was the highlight of our trip to the Yucatán! Louis was an exceptional host and tour resource—making our visit the Yucatán the vacation of a lifetime! Our breakfasts were wonderful, fresh and delicious. The accommodations were very comfortable and gave us a taste of the local Mayan culture. Thank you Louis for your hospitality and sharing with my husband and I your love for the local culture, history and people!
Nestled in a lush garden, Hotel Chichen Itza is a gorgeous and affordable hotel hosted by a kind and attentive staff including Armelo, the very friendly manager who was quite flexible with our schedule. Their wonderful restaurant, the yummy drinks, and the close proximity to the wonders of the Mayan world make this a must stay hotel!
I love the natural pool. Also having 2 pools at the property is wonderful. The rooms are quaint and comfy and the relaxed atmosphere is calming. Location is great for seeing the ruins. And not just Chichen Itza, Ek Balam and some beautiful centoes are nearby as well. Also the hot water is awesome and water pressure is great.
The host was very kind and the room was simple but very comfortable. The garden is nice, and I enjoyed eating breakfast there. The house is very close to Chichen Itzá, so you can easily beat the crowds. Overall a very positive experience and I highly recommend it! Much more personal than a hotel.
This is a very peaceful place. Nice very clean room. We were there on a slow Monday but all services were available and dinner was good.
Perfect place to get an early start at Chichen Itza which is essential because of the crowds and heat. It is about five minutes away.
We had a nice room and enjoyed the pool area. The hotel is around 25 minutes walking or 5 minutes driving distance from Chichen Itza, which makes it a really great place to explore the site for a fair price. There was drinking water available and cake in the morning.
The property has its own wild style, very authentic and with jungle atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and fouthcoming. Place has good location to reach Chichen Itza. And has no nearby neighbours - might be good for events (has enough open space for it).
This is the perfect stay for people intending to visit Chichén Itza as early birds (which I strongly recommend). The hotel looks great, there is a large pool in the middle of the hotel area which makes a great place for leisure and vacation photos.
The hotel is in beautiful buildings in landscaped grounds and really close to Chichen Itza. The staff were very helpful and arranged our trip to the site and organised a guide (all very reasonable). They provided transport too.
Great location ! If you want afordable lodging close to Chichen Itza, it's good. Beds are confortable, room is big but old. Good size pool, shallow, perfect for childrens. Balcony with chairs and table, was nice.
The location was exceptional to go to Chichen Itza! the personal at the reception was extremely helpful and nice. We had a wonderful stay. The hotel has a beautiful garden and a great restaurant as well!
Loved it! Great for visiting Chichen Itza. Gorgeous and classic simple hotel with a nice pool. Nicely located for Chichen Itza, also near some shops and restaurants. Plentiful easy parking.
Vanessa and Joel were fantastic. Short stoll into Piste. The room was perfect and the pool area was perfect for chill out time after morning at Chichen Itza. Superb and thank you!!!
Such kind hosts and very relaxing atmosphere. Very close to Chichén Itzá and walking distance to the restaurants and cafes in Pisté and Tinum. Very firm bed.
