This is the most friendly place in the whole of Australia!
This is the most friendly place in the whole of Australia! Everyone we came in contact with was so helpful and accommodating. We did not experience one unpleasant person during the time of our visit. Kirk at the Information Centre set the bar high and made us feel very welcome.
A number of vineyards are dog friendly so that makes travelling with pets so much easier. There are also a number of excellent restaurants and cafes that have an outdoor area where it is possible to sit with your pet and enjoy an excellent meal. There are so many wineries to visit you will need to plan a further trip.

Lovely old buildings with modern facilities.
Lovely old buildings with modern facilities. Easy access to wineries. A good range of quality food and coffee in the main shopping strip. I am an avid push bike rider; Rutherglen has great bike tracks and safe wide roads to ride on. Even a good-sized supermarket. People are friendly.

Rutherglen is famous for its wineries, so a visit here is not complete until you visit some of the cellar doors. Staying in town is a great place as it central to all the Vinyards there. But the main street is worth a visit too as its a nice, picturesque place with many interesting shops.

I loved the food and wine.
I loved the food and wine. The area is lovely, particularly in winter, with plenty of open fires at vineyards and restaurants.
The highlights:
It's a short drive to Corowa, where we enjoyed a whiskey tasting at the Corowa Whiskey Distillery and Chocolate factory. The hot toddy and hot chocolate with a "wee dram" were delicious!
Lake Moodemere is a must for lunch or dinner, which can be matched with wines. An open fire, cosy atmosphere, great wines, excellent food, and outstanding staff - it couldn't have been better.
We also had a slightly more "informal" lunch at Footsteps @ Colfield Winery - best hamburger ever!

Rutherglen beautifully, just where we stayed was not worth the money, much overpriced.lot more places good for the money & once you have paid by card in advance, not much you can do. All comes to bottom $ & value for money $214.00 for 1 night a bit rich for where we stayed

The Rutherglen is a beautiful wine and farming area.
The Rutherglen is a beautiful wine and farming area. There are lots of vineyards, olive groves and Corowa is not far. We walked around the town and it was pleasant and an interesting place to explore. We had dinner at the pub and it was excellent.
The location of the motel is very central to everything in Rutherglen and very close to wonderful wineries. We enjoyed walking across the road to Tuileries Restaurant at De Bortolis Winery, where we had a truly delicious dinner.
The room was very comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and thick fluffy towels in the bathroom. The hosts were very hospitable and welcoming. We would definitely stay there again.
Beautifully appointed and spacious apartment accommodation with the largest bathroom we have encountered in an hotel. Lovely grounds and an excellent restaurant. We did not bother trying to find anywhere else for dinner on the two nights we stayed. Very courteous staff who seemed to like their jobs as well as appreciating their customers.
Staff are extremely friendly and were in communication prior to our stay answering all our questions. Comfortable family room. Liked that it was 2 rooms too and the main room was large enough that we didn't feel cramped as a family of 4. Positioned behind the Poachers Paradise Hotel with quick access to the main street of Rutherglen.
This is a beautiful B&B to stay in located a short walk from the centre of Rutherglen. Comfortable room plus lounge to relax in. Veranda out front is a perfect place to have a drink and admire the garden. Kellie is a charming host providing a great breakfast and in depth knowledge of the local area and hostelries. Highly recommend.
We traveled to Rutherglen for a 2 night stay and picked Poachers Paradise for a 1 night STAY. The Staff was very accomodating to our needs and the room was spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfy as well. It was also very central to everything in this pretty little town. Thanks Petra
Spacious, comfortable and clean apartment, well located to explore Rutherglen wineries. Chris and Ian are wonderful hosts with a good knowledge of the region. Their 3 border collies are gorgeous and the property gardens are impressive. We forward to returning in future
Clean and quiet. Good mattress and ok shower. Mostly full of grey nomads rather than tradies and FIFOs peeling out at 5am.
Nice spot. Close to all the attractions and pumping nightlight of rutherglen except for the wineries which are all out of town.
Dawn had thought of everything one could want or need at this home-away-from-home. it was amongst the best places we’ve stayed at. The beautiful succulent garden was just the icing on the cake. we will definitely detour through Rutherglen again.
The breakfast is superb. One of the best I have ever had. Beautifully presented. High quality.
The bed is really really comfortable. The room (and bathroom) is very spacious and has a lovely view. Great hotel/ superb.
Beautiful apartment, right in the centre of Rutherglen. Furnishings gorgeous, comfy bed, everything we needed. Great communication regarding check in. Absolutely recommend and will stay again.
