FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

The restaurants are next level. Melbourne is super busy and there are pedestrians everywhere but everyone seems to move with ease and everyone is friendly. Loved the food and the shopping. Bring good walking shoes - so much to see and do. Loved the free trams around the CBD. Public transport is very good.

We commented daily on receiving incredibly kind and courteous assistance wherever we went and on the friendliness we encountered. Perhaps it had something to do with our white hair but it seemed very spontaneous and natural. The trams and trains are amazing, easy to access and incredibly cheap. Our good fortune with the weather was a huge plus.

A great city with friendly people, great cuisine, and lots of entertainment. There are also many options for walks along the river, parks or the beach. The public transport is good but you must buy a MyKi card/pass pre-loaded with credit before you can access it.

Unfortunately Melbourne is following hot on the heels of the 'gouge' economy when it comes to attending public entertainment venues with crazy prices for simple junk foods. That said, snack at happy hour at your hotel before going out and you are sure to find a good little eatery somewhere later on in the night.

Location in CBD was perfect, as was the close proximity to Southbank, tram stops, Flinders Station, and Southern Cross Station. All the main shopping streets are very close as well, with convenience stores, cafes etc basically on the door-step. As for the hotel itself, rooms, bathrooms, cleanliness, facilities etc were excellent! The gym and pool were also fine. Reception and all wait staff were very good. The breakfast team were very good and the food was exceptional Best hotel-stay Ive ever had in Melbourne

The staff were all very warm and approachable. I have received attentive service from Mr Godwill and his team: Catherine, Angelina, Shivani, and the rest. Kudos to them !! The location was awesome, close to the Melbourne city (CBD), QV Market, and 10 minutes walk to Spencer Street Station, where one could go anywhere because of country trains, metro trains etc..... and even Sky Bus to Tullamarine International Airport. So close to Marvel Stadium without being in Docklands which was the reason for our stay, but also just a quick walk to Southbank or the Spencer St Outlet if you don't want to deal with the CBD (like us)!
