We didn’t stay in Mackay, but chose to stay at the Dolphin Heads Resort about 10kms out of Mackay. A very picturesque beach, there is an amazing old pub on the headland with the most beautiful view. We had dinner at the Resort Restaurant, and a very comfortable, quiet and enjoyable one night stay at the Resort. Well priced and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We will indeed stay there again and recommend this place to all.

We didn't plan to stay at Mackay, it was the final stop of our road trip and that's where the airport was. Airport only 10 minutes' drive from centre of Mackay, where we stayed in a motel. Plenty of restaurants nearby. The Lagoon area is lovely and very quiet on a weekday when we were there. We walked the Lagoon trail which was pleasant but much longer than anticipated as not very clear signing after you had reached the bridge over the Pioneer River. We should have just taken Sydney Rd back to town but ended up along the river and at the ocean at Iluka Park. Then another 2km into town. Great shopping centre in middle of town. We visited Cape Hillsborough and stayed three nights as it was so awesome. Trails to walk, great beach, wildlife. We saw a goanna, lots of birds, smaller skinks and of course the kangaroos at dawn. Visited Sarina Sugar Shed, which was very interesting after passing all the cane fields.

On checking in, we were given a room on level 1, with no view. The street noise was almost unbearable. We requested a change and the staff kindly moved us to a river facing room. The view was lovely, but to be honest this accommodation is sold as river frontage. It is in actual fact a block away from the River with large buildings obscuring the view. The location is perfectly central though with great accessibility to shopping. We recommend that upon booking your accommodation, to ensure what type of room you will be placed into.

    I did visit a beach don't know it's name.

I did visit a beach don't know it's name. Very clean and appealing lots of trees and some birds. It was low tide and sand which I walked out on right out into the ocean. The place was busy for a city but you can get around reasonably easy. Been here before. Marina great to see. Biotanic gardens worth seeing. City centre nice to walk around. Worth coming here for a look.

Beautiful city it would be a must to have a car to get around as it very spread out or be comfortable on public transport however then you would miss out on some great beaches or lookouts a car is highly recommended.

One of the worst Towns in Australia for accommodation and eating out. No proper facilities at all. There is no night life so you need to book an excellent Hotel where you are happy to spend most of your time. not easy to get around without a car and hire car costs are exorbitant. Only way from/to airport is a cab at $50 approx.

The rooms were of excellent quality. Ive stayed at the at many big name hotels from australia to dubai to the US (up to $700+ per night) and surprisingly, this place, hidden away in Mackay, seemed to have spent more on the rooms (tiles, bathroom) and the room i stayed in had a pretty huge bathroom given what I paid for for that room. Also the manager was pretty accommodating and booked a place very last minute. I checked in quite late, BUT was greeted with a warm smile. Thank you.

Everything is close. Coles, Canelands, Restaurants & Sporting clubs are pretty close too. You can walk to most places but if you decide to drive, it's only a 2 min drive to the CBD, 5 min drive to Harbour, etc. The room was clean, comfortable, affordable & the receptionists was super friendly. I would definitely stay again 👍😊

Room was clean, modern, fantastic location. We have recently stayed at 2 other motels in Mackay and this will very likely be our go to place to stay. The interconnecting family room we had for our family was the perfect option allowing us to put kids in their own space and we were able to watch tv.

Great service from Lisa who provided a lovely king room for the two of us. Had dinner on the first night and it was very nice freshly cooked pan fried Barramundi. Several kilometers one way to the botanic Gardens and similar distance into Mackay City. Would recommend this place to my friends.

Absolute relaxation. The resort itself is older, so the rooms might be a little less modern than an inner city spot but they were clean, comfy as, and so, so relaxing. This will likely be my new home away from home when i travel to Mackay for work.

The Alara is my favourite place to stay in Mackay. The rooms are always clean, neat and tidy. The staff at the front desk are always so welcoming. And the restaurant attached to the hotel is amazing! Cannot recommend this hotel enough

Location was close to a great shopping centre, and the heart of town, lots of eateries & restaurants, we were on the wrong side of hotel for a view, but rooftop allowed us to look over the Pioneer River, Room was beautiful.
