FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

What Guests Said About Hobart:

    Here's what.

Here's what. When I booked, I imagined that it would be a regular room with a space where I could have my suitcase and so on. I didn't imagine that it would be a cubicle. The idea of my 'room' is not applicable to this situation. This refers to the room, which I felt didn't allow me enough space to be specific. Hobart was wonderful. I should have booked tours I wanted to do immediately. I bought food mostly from businesses in the mall and Woolworths. I had cereal at the Wharf and a small bowl was AUD16. A tad bit expensive, I'd say. Getting around Hobart was really easy and I would return to Hobart for longer next time.

We liked most the Salamanca Market area, which is very nice and friendly area with art shops, inviting restaurants and just sit at street set-up tables sipping some fantastic Tasmanian red wines. Our favourite eating out was Franklin Wharfs Restaurant, just short walks from Travelodge Hotel. This Restaurant is very well set up, very inviting and full licensed . Hobart is indeed a very walkable tourist City, has well organised street and traffic system, no need to use the public transport, better to walk around.

Always love going back to my birth place of Hobart.

Always love going back to my birth place of Hobart. It was great to be a tourist for 7 days on honeymoon to do things that I have and have not already done. Salamanca Markets are the best of any I’ve been to. Mount Wellington was simply awesome! And the fresh seafood at Constitution Dock is second to none!

Hobart is a great city with lots of things to visit and see, majority are only a short distance. There is something for everyone covering environmental, historical, scenic, adrenaline, food and drink all with a close distance. Easy to get around so hiring a car is easy or you can take up the many day tours they have available. The food and drinks around all of Tassie is high quality.

Really enjoyed Port Arthur and the area.

Really enjoyed Port Arthur and the area. Very well put together historic exhibits and narrative. Went around the Kingston’s Kettering peninsula and to Cygnet. Very beautiful drive. Went to Geevston and on into Tahune Forrest air walk and forestry trails. Excellent guided tour of forestry walk which was well worth the effort. Third day drove out to Richmond town to look around it. Lovely old place with peaceful river walks. Great coffee shop and gallery with bloke playing the harp; superb atmosphere. Drove on to Coleshill and Jericho via Melton Mowbray. Great views of the countryside and farming before returning to Hobart via the Botanic Gardens ( lovely Japanese garden ). Eat lot of fish at Mures on the quays. Excellent meal at Mures upper deck. Old Woolshed hotel food was also excellent. Rate trip to Hobart area as a real success!

The location is everything when describing this property. You are literally right above where Salamanca markets are held. There are heaps of dining and drinking options within a minutes walk. Art galleries, shops, CBD etc is only minutes away by walking. A few days earlier I had stayed in North Hobart and compared to that hotel, which was a 20 minute walk up/down a hill, the location of Galleria could not be topped. Highly recomment. The apartment was so spacious. Heaps of room for working, sleeping and playing!

What a wonderful stay. The staff were friendly. Amelia at reception was fantastic, helping us with an early check in. The location of this hotel is perfect with excellent views over the waterfront. So many great choices for dining out and a short stroll to Salamanca. The buffet breakfast was spot on with freshly cooked eggs or omelette made to your wishes a bonus. Parking was easy. Our bed was super comfy with a pillow menu being on offer. Hard to fault our stay.

This property exceeded our expectations with the hosts going above and beyond to offer a unique, Tasmanian experience. Lots of complimentary extras included which were a lovely touch - most of which we didn't have time to take advantage of but the thought was appreciated none the less! Nice to see an accommodation live up to the word "luxury" that gets thrown around alot - no cheap kmart furnishings or supermarket shampoo here. Everything was quality.
