Gladstone is a great commercial and industrial hub and there are plenty of attractions to visit.
Doing your own exploring is the way to go here as if you have a rental car or motorhome there are short excursions you can make easily within 1 day.
Nice eateries, clubs, pubs, or malls to shop for your own tastes.
If you are looking for luxury prpbably wouldn't suit but for having a laid back no hassle holiday Gladstone is great.

Gladstone is an industrial town, but they have lots of facilities along East Shores particularly for families. There is a range of things to do with places like Tannum Sands a short drive. There are a range of food options to suit all tastes within the city centre.

On the first night we arrived after a 6.5hr drive and advised we could eat at the Oakes, so why not! The Oakes and Vine Restaurant dinner was 4.9/5 compliments to the chef and crew. Hadn't eaten all day but that Red emperor was cooked to perfection and my husbands T-bone was perfect med-rare and soft. It was great to see that Gladstone was really such a family friendly place, given the parks, marina area with bbq's and generally people just out and about. The cleanliness of the town itself was immaculate as were the parks so council are doing a great job. Went to get a gift as it was kind of last minute trip and found what I wanted as the shopping centre had everything we could have asked for. Thanks Happyrock for a great weekend!

Gladstone is an interesting town.
Gladstone is an interesting town. It is quite big and well laid out. We went to the lookout and found it very interesting. The foreshore around the marina and the park at the marina are beautiful.

There is basically nothing to do in Gladstone.
There is basically nothing to do in Gladstone. We stopped here overnight while coaching up the coast and wished we didn’t stop. Struggled to find activities to do while killing time. Also didn’t feel very safe as travellers here.

I went there to buy a house.
I went there to buy a house. Julia from Remax was very helpful, Roxanne and Stuart from one percent were helpful and an agent by the name of jay from ilocation was also helpful. I also appreciate the efforts of ros waters from remax as well. Other agents werent interested, didnt return calls, were rude, so if you are looking for a house, I hightly recommend the agents above. The restaurant called familia is only open for lunch and breakfast, however, the chef is brilliant, the staff are friendly and the location overlooking the river was pleasant. Rocksalt for dinner in ridges where I stayed was excellent for dinner. I have uploaded a picture of the view across the road from the familia restaurant and one of the river view from my new home.
In short, I guess you get what you pay for. This place is really cheap - so we didn't have high expectations... But I think it could have been cleaner. The couches were ripped and smelly, the cat was eating from a bowl on the shelf of the eating area and we got bed bugs :( . The backpackers is on a residential street in a seemingly low socio- economic area. We listened to quite a bit of domestic shouting/swearing/screaming the one night we were there. We left feeling dirty.
I booked what I thought was a very cheap motel just as a bed to sleep in overnight before heading off to Heron Island the next morning. While it was an older style motel, it was immaculately clean, had a great new bathroom , a good location close to the ferry, very cheap and the staff were lovely. They even offered that we could leave our car there during our stay at Heron Island.
I loved the Mantra so much I try to stay here as much as I can in Gladstone. It's definitely the most refined and most well managed of the local hotels. The beds are ultra comfy. I love the layout of the room and the restaurants are good. The staff is a mixed bag. Sometimes you can get an ultra nice person. Sometimes not. But all in all I wouldnt stay anywhere else in the area.
The photos on line were a lot nicer then the room I had.
There was no microwave in the room and it was very noisy due to being close to the hotel.
The room was very old with ripped curtains and the air conditioner had a bad smell.
If you're looking for cheap accommodation, try elsewhere first.
Pet friendly was the only benefit.🐕
The size of the property was really good and suited our needs. We fit 8 Adults comfortably. Value for money and spacious. Would recommend and definitely would stay there again if visiting Gladstone in the future. Felt like a home away from home!!
Friendly, helpful reception staff.
Upgrade to a great room with balcony and views.
Stylish decor
Comfortable spacious room
Huge bed. Super comfortable
Really clean
I would (and did) stay here again and would recommend Oaks Gladstone.
My stay at Gladstone Palms Motor Inn was nothing short of exceptional. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a comfortable and welcoming retreat in Gladstone. I look forward to returning on my next visit to the area.
Hotel staff was extremely friendly and resolved and issues (broken aircon unit in room) and special requests (early checkin, hotel bill splitting and taxi pick-up) immediately, effectively and with an exceptional friendliness.
It had what we required for an affordable price. It was walking distance from cafes and shopping centre. It is right in the centre of Gladstone so easy to get around on foot. Parking in front of your room is awesome.
Location, love the larger frig than most hotels offer, comfy recliner, lovely helpful receptionist. Was refreshing change from the other more hotels. Exceeded expectations for the price!! Definite recommendation
Rydges is right in the middle of town, close to the wharf/jetty area so great place to overnight before heading out to the reef. It has a restaurant and others right outside, so very convenient.
Have stayed at this hotel a couple of times to break up a long drive. Can't beat the value for money. Rooms are modern and clean. It's within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
