The greater Mt Dandenong area, including Emerald, Monbulk, Olinda, Sassafras, Belgrave etc is an excellent, peaceful part of Victoria, just an hour's drive from Melbourne.
The boutique shops offer a wide variety of goods to buy, from clothes to teas (in Sassafras), artwork, nic-nacs and beyond. Food on offer is excellent and suits pretty much all dietary requirements.
A place to stay, really enjoy and explore.

We were there to celebrate our 32 year old autistic son birthday and it was such a delightful moment for him.
The provision of books, toys and games made the stay for families with young children a whole lot easier.
The whole vibe of the cottage was great! Everything is excellent. The view from the rooms were stunning. The peacefulness around the whole compound was a moment to remember for us.

The rooms (stayed in 2 different ones) are not very big and the bathrooms and kitchens were a little crowded. The bed was comfortable and the decor quirky but we liked it. It is a beautiful setting and has good outdoor niches to sit in. The town is relatively close but beware trying to go anywhere, especially at night, depending on taxis or Uber. They do not service most of the Ranges.

It was beautiful, and quite.
It was beautiful, and quite. We didn't find the heater a problem, if any thing it worked too good and we just closed some vents. The property was gorgeous. Didn't hear our neighbours at all. Our only issue was not hot water after 8ish each night, but could work around that.

Close to everything in the Dandenongs.
Close to everything in the Dandenongs. Make sure you visit the bakery opposite the post office. Artisan breads, cakes, pastries, pies etc plus a HUGE variety of fresh, ‘home cooked’ meals to reheat. We bought some delightful food which was packed onto a huge cardboard tray to avoid squashing anything. There’s a big IGA one end of town and a Woolworths down the other end. Even of a weekend and school holidays, parking was never a problem for our group.
The cottage is joined to another, in the garden of the owner’s property, set amongst spectacular tall eucalypt forest. Ten minutes drive (or walk through forest) is the small town of Emerald and the famous “Puffing Billy” station. Inside, the cottage is spacious with good heating and bathroom, comfortable bed, sofa and chairs. The host had left us full breakfast items to cook, along with a supply of seed to attract and feed the local rosellas. The kitchen is well-appointed, though could do with one or more larger saucepans.
The Gumtree cottage exceeded our expectations, it was really clean and new inside. The kitchen had everything you needed, the fireplace was perfect for the cold nights and the room was large with a viewable spa. It was really great to get away and relax in the wilderness. Naomi the host was super friendly and accomodating. She had a great spirit and personality. A short drive into Emerald city centre which is a beautiful place, the bakery there is spectacular, a must visit.
Rebecca & Gavin's place was exceptional & a real credit to them, our room was everything you would want, very comfortable and well set out with an awesome selection for breakfast along with some yummy snacks. We will definitely return one day & will highly recommend Emerald Ridge to all our friends!
Cute, country cottage, very homely and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay. We were so pleased with the excellent communication from our hosts, and the extra touches with the amazing breakfast hamper and goodies were so lovely. Thank you Paul and Wendy for a wonderful stay in beautiful Emerald.
Exceptional location, house and the hosts. We had a 1 year old and the host had provided all the amenities to make the space hospitable for a little baby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again. Place was right in front of the lake and area is very private and serene.
it is nice and cosy little house with all you need. we stayed there with our kids and parent. The house is filled with all you need to keep kids entertained indoor and outdoor. Emerald park is near by and other attractions are not far as well
Lovely accomodation, very quiet, well equipped and spotless. We spent one night and really enjoyed it. Our host welcomed us with lots of useful information and even a complementary drink. Close to Emerald and to many stunning walks.
Jennie is a very gracious host, who bakes delicious foods and caters to dietary requirements. The house has a beautiful view looking east and is secluded in Emerald. The bedroom is very comfortable.
