Excellent location. You may not need a rented car if you stay in the central location. We stayed here for 5 days. Went to Great Barrier Reef, Green Island, Used the sky rail to go to Kurandra and came back by Scenic Rail. Snorkling at both Green Island and Great Barrier Reef was too good.

Brilliant clean pool in apartment.
Brilliant clean pool in apartment. We did Kuranda tour the train to the top of mountain and the cable car over the rainforest/ Green Island tour, where we enjoyed the glass bottom boat, snorkelling, and seeing the large crocodile that was recovering from an injury on the island. We also did Daintree crocodile river tour and we saw 3 crocodiles, went swiming in Rossman Gorge. The tours were fantastic and so was Cairns, we had the holiday of a life time. Thankyou to everyone for the wonderful tours.

I wasn't too keen, it was a humid sweatbox and I didn't feel particularly safe at night walking the streets. Plenty to do activity wise during the day. The Croc Bar was the best bit. $10 steak & fires. Night market is just tat and the food places within the night market aren't great. Decent-ish night-life and the drinks are cheaper than the big city's.

We flew into Cairns from Sydney to see The Daintree...
We flew into Cairns from Sydney to see The Daintree Rainforest & Mossman Gorge before picking up a motor home for a week, so for us it was more of a stop over than a destination. Not overly impressed with Cairns, but to be fair it was a very fleeting visit, and we may well have missed the best bits.

We enjoyed driving up to and exploring the tableland towns...
We enjoyed driving up to and exploring the tableland towns and tourist spots. Don't like parking infringement for a couple of minutes. We came back to Cairns especially to do Karanda rainforest, train and sky rail adventure, changed our dates to fit in with the opening of the train to Karanda. Rain days allowed us to explore the inner city but we were glad to see the sun.
Our view, was a sea view, even though we were by the Marina.
It looked over part of the esplanade which we liked.
The hotel was across from the Reef Terminal, which was great as I was wondering how far we would have to walk to get there. I had booked the tour from home. Not even a five minute walk.
The hotel was close to many restaurants, just below or along the boardwalk.
We did some walking around town for souvenirs and shopping and even managed to go to the Cairns Aquarium.
Spacious, clean, well equipped, centra location, pool and in unit washer & dryer. Heinrich the manager went over and above in accommodating us. We arrived on Good Friday and all the groceries stores we closed, the day before we forward him a small shopping list and all the items were in or fridge upon arrival. He offered a shuttle service to restaurants, tours, airport….etc for a small fee. This is the place to stay in Cairns.
Hotel tropiq was by far our best stay in cairns - great wifi in room & by pool, lovely & super helpful staff, felt safe, very clean room with kettle, fridge & microwave, towels and you even get complimentary chocolates & shower gels! It’s also only a 15-20 min walk mostly along the beach to the main esplanade in cairns centre - Wish we’d stayed here the whole time & would definitely stay again!
I really appreciated my stay in this hostel :) My shared room was kept clean and tidy, the kitchen and the dinning room were sufficiently equipped (with coffee and tea at our disposal), the location was ideal (close to everything), the staff was attentive to my needs ans I met wonderful people.
I can only recommend staying in this hotel if you want to enjoy Cairns !
We enjoyed our stay there. Love the location of hotel, walking distance to the Esplanade, city center and Cairns Central. Had a drink at Arte Wine bar and the staff there were friendly. The King deluxe room we had was lovely, with good views, clean & tidy, a variety of teas & a Nespresso coffee machine and most importantly the bed was firm and comfortable.
Great view and excellent city location, close to shops snd restaurants snd a short walk to the esplanade lagoon. Very quiet despite being in a prime city location. The apartment was large with very modern appliances. TV’s in every room we’re a nice touch for the kids, and a massive screen in the family room. The couch was huge and extremely comfortable.
View from Level 7 is great and the location was a convenient walk to the main part of Cairns with all the restaurants and cafes. The unit was very big - with two bedrooms, a kitchen, a laundry, living area and two bathrooms - suited our family needs very well. The pool at the property was good - it seemed well maintained.
The room was spacious with a comfy King size bed. Quiet and a great location near the Esplanade and Cruise Terminal. Very welcoming staff (Manager Peter was very friendly and accommodating and is an asset to the Hotel) and late check-out was excellent. Highly recommend this Hotel and would gladly stay here again.
Simple hotel but with a nice vibe. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant, which is part of the hotel, is very good and definitely worth a visit.
Not a negative, but in case important to people, the location is about a 20-minute walk from the Esplanade and the more buzzy areas of Cairns.
The staff was amazing from check in to check out. They even stored my luggage while I did a scuba liveaboard. The hotel itself is older but the rooms have been renovated. The gym was sufficient. The location is perfect right at the Esplanade. Easy to walk for food, leisure or the incredible sunsets.
Close proximity to esplanade and prime area. Rooms need renovation. It's kind of old and still well maintained. Grocery store was next door. Great restaurants around the hotel. We were able to walk to our Reef tour from the hotel. When it comes to location, this hotel is probably best.
our room was lovely and very clean, we enjoyed the pool area and the location of the hotel was great and so convenient to the tourist hub of Cairns, the breakfast was more than adequate with a great choice and the staff in your breakfast area were exceptionally helpful.
Good sized apartments which were well equipped for a family of four. Plenty of pillows and blankets! Close to grocery stores and a short drive to The Esplanade and other Cairns attractions. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.
I liked the fact that the hotel was on the bus route for great transportation into Cairns City.
I liked that I booked through booking.com for a cheaper rate.
I liked that the staff where fantastic and doing there best to provide comfort.
The location of the hotel was perfect, so close to Cairns centre, the marina and the Esplanade.
The beds are soooo comfy!! Slept better than ever every night.
The staff were so friendly, so eager to please and help.
The apartment was absolute luxury. We are so glad that we decided to go with this versus hiring a hotel room. There was enough room for the whole family and the beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept on.
Lovely location, glimpse of water, and the Cairns Wheel and Esplanade were the main view. Most comfortable for the stay.
No noise from the hospitality under the hotel, big plus.
Cairns plaza hotel is in a great location right on the esplanade, the room was clean and tidy!
Staff were friendly and accommodating for us extending our nights stay (twice)
