Recommend you pass by, try a different town. Arrived after 18.00 to find all reception offices closed in almost all hotels. only telephone and internet contact . 30 minutes standing in the rain at the last hotel trying to get the key that was in a lockbox. Ended up in a kitchen / passageway with a bed no locks on the doors.

From our hotel it was easy walking distance to a supermarket and shops and it was all flat - no hills. The RSL was a slightly longer walk but very pleasant on the board walk. The Ramada's restaurant was still undergoing restoration after the floods so we look forward to trying it on our next visit.

Homeless at the front door and shopping trolleys full of soaked belongings.
A parade of bogans loitering around the hotel street and lawns.
A perfect view of a river system dotted with pelicans and dolphins, seemingly trained to appear as the guest arrives.
A very very busy town centre with a Main Street way past its use by date, impatient drivers rivalling the hectic streets of Rome or Beijing, trying to avoid the many elderly on their motorised scooters.
A WIDE variety of every food and drink you could search for with an incredibly high standard of cleanliness at each cafe and bakery and eatery.
Several thrift shops, boutiques and clothing stores catering for most if not all budgets and tastes.
Unsafe for cycling in the sense that many European cities opt for with vehicle of choice mainly being oversized gas guzzling 4WD s.
A tapestry of humans from many walks, a bouquet of widely sourced characters to fill River Street and a pace of somewhat crazed rush just prior to Christmas.
The entire location can be enveloped in mist, a moment later sunshine followed by an afternoon storm, to a traveller, the most perfect combination of sea and river breezes with the warmth of a temperate day and no humidity.
Casting aside or happy to accept the redneck hicks and drugged out locals that represent a minor percentage of those encounter, the town thrives on a balance of visiting Australian holiday makers and a sprinkling of mainly European and South American tourists. No swarms of Asians like Pitt Street mall or tribes of Ethiopians drifting along Todd Mall.
Seemly untouched by the suffocating First Nation retoric, there is an acceptable streamlined understanding of accepting all as they come.

Ballina is one of our favourite short stay locations-2 hours from home. Great town with amenities. Beaches, the river stretching along the main street, whales and dolphins can be viewed from cliffs just outside town, friendly people and great golf course with excellent Asian restaurant.
We have also holidayed here in the past-highly recommended!

All rooms were suitable for our families in apartment 6.Apartment 8 was most suitable for my sister and had plenty room for her family. The view is amazing watching the sunset and tides coming in the bay. The hotel across the pub is great my family made friends with the locals and a beautiful outdoor area close to swimming.
Due to the Lismore floods we were unable to stay with immediate family as they were affected by the floods.Staying in Ballina was more suitable for us as all.
Thank you Kate and Chris.
The staff that greeted me on arrival were amazing and really accommodating as I was travelling alone with a toddler. My daughter hates staying at hotels and being away from home but she loved it here. All the rooms are really close to accessing the pool, free parking is a massive bonus. Once again the lovely woman at the front were amazing and definitely make me want to go back because of the delightful hospitality.
What is there not to like about the Ballina Manor, best place we have stayed in a very long time. Room was perfect, Hannah and Gersche have done an amazing job bringing the Manor back to life, all credit to you both. Perfect hosts and extremely helpful and friendly, perfect couple to take care of the Manor, great job, keep up the great work, and cannot wait to stay again.
This motel is a fair distance from the town centre, river and beach - but close to shopping and easy access back to the highway. For our overnight stay it was comfortable, bed and shower good, quiet, good space. Price ok for Ballina. We appreciated the offer of a discount at the nearby sports club though we didn't use it.
Ballina Manor is a beautiful small hotel that permits one night stays. Warm friendly owner, very clean, and with comfortable beds. We appreciated the thoughtful touches of breakfast provisions including a Nespresso machine and fresh milk. It is a short walk or drive to the Main Street. Excellent value accommodation.
The plantation shutters in our room were great and kept the light out, I wish every hotel had these.
The location worked for us and we found it quite east to get to where we needed.
The guy checking us in was quite pleasant when he eventually finished his call and oped the door to let me in.
It caters to dog lovers with a fenced dog park right across from the pet friendly cabins. The cafe/bar was brilliant and a beach within walking distance (unfortunately no dogs on this beach but a dog friendly beach about 15 minutes drive away)
I booked for three nights and was placed in the noisiest room next to the exit door. The hotel rule was to keep the door shut and this meant I suffered for hous having to hear the door constantly bang shut.
