Loved the beautiful walks on offer. stayed in McLeods Bay which was central and meant we were only a short drive from several other lovely bays. Ocean beach and Smugglers Bay definitely worth a visit as well as Pataura. Water is crystal clear and the beaches are so clean. The Pines Golf Course is a great course. Parua Tavern does great meals and is in a lovely spot. You can sit right out by the water or up on the outside deck - there is also a covered indoor deck area and an inside section too. McLeod Bay takeaways do great fish and chips and the Indian takeaway at Parua Bay also do great meals. Overall we loved the tranquility (we went at beginning of April so not many holiday makers around and it was like we had the place to ourselves. A beautiful part of NZ and we'll be going back again.

Amazingly beautiful spot. So much to see.

Amazingly beautiful spot. So much to see. The locals were very friendly. The beaches and scenery are stunning. We didn't see a single bit of rubbish on the beaches and whilst there are no bins for rubbish, everyone takes their own rubbish with them. There was nothing we did not like about the Whangarei Heads.

Plenty of walks with fantastic views, beautiful (and very private) beaches with the cleanest water we have ever seen. Very picturesque mountains, which you will enjoy climbing. Great "Fish and Chips" shop just nearby, otherwise, you can travel (8 min drive) to a local "4 Square" (mini-supermarket).
