Graeme was there to meet us and was friendly and helpful with a vast knowledge of the area and history around Whanganui. Loved the art and photos and all the interesting books. Comfy beds, well equipped with tea and coffee and extras like lollies and biscuits. Beautiful surroundings with old established trees with Tuis and Fantails. Gorgeous!

The history of the city is clearly evident in the retention of a lot of charming century old buildings which have been carefully maintained on the outside with appropriate interior upgrades. A ride on the river steamboat and a unique in-ground lift which takes you from near sea level to the top of a hill suburb are other attractions.

Whanganui has a wealth of history.
Whanganui has a wealth of history. Like many modern day cities/towns around NZ, Whanganui had its hey day at the turn of the 1900s, and as the river became less important for transport and access, the local economy went into decline. However, many aspects of this affluent past have been preserved. Highlights for us included the trip aboard the paddle Steamer (1912 restored) Waimarie, taking the elevator to the top of Durie Hill and climbing the 176 steps to the top of the town's WW1 memorial.
Walking around Majestic Square and the modernist War Memorial Hall, made us feel transported to Brasilia, as this style of architecture was lauded by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
We attended The Whanganui Opera House's Repertory Theatre production of Titanic Letters which was a lovely finale to our stay here.

Great area, near beach and a nice little holiday park with good amenities. Swimming pool close to kitchen, BBQ and covered area with tables, fab for families. Our small accommodation looked like a playhouse from the outside with a veranda to sit on, but provided tv, shower, toilet, kitchenette and double bed. Fine for the 1 night we stayed.

Our church group members went to Whanganui, some stayed at Coachmans Lodge Motel and some stayed at Burwood Motel. We did not really going around Whanganui as we were there for an event for our church and we had our lunch and dinner at the church hall.
We find it very easy to get around Whanganui and we will visit other places next time we go there.
We really enjoyed our trip.

Whanganui is a bit of a hidden gem!
Whanganui is a bit of a hidden gem! Excellent dining spots and cafe's. If you are an art lover then it is the place for you. Lots of Galleries and local art collectives to meander through. The river walk is a great stroll and older buildings to admire.
We have stayed there several times before because it is quite easy to get into the main street and complete the tasks we were down in Whanganui for. The room was well set up and large. lots of room for bags etc and an excellent spa bath was provided in the room. Bed was very comfortable as was the parking. The heat pump kept the room warm, and the television offered a very full range of channels.
The room was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The staff were exceptional - the best service we have had at a motel. I would highly recommend this accommodation and we will definitely stay here anytime we need a room in Whanganui. A big special mention and thank you to Bonnie.
Great location, easy to find. Easy to navigate your way out of Whanganui to continue your journey. Several takeaway places nearby and very close to a petrol station. Plenty of parking. Lovely grounds. Very comfy beds. Spacious bathroom. Just an all round very satisfactory place to stop at.
Everything about this property was excellent. The room was spacious with an outdoor sitting area, the bed, pillows and linen were top notch. It was in a quiet neighborhood location with a back gate to the beautiful Virginia Lake walking paths. The host was friendly and informative.
Location and parking are excellent. About 2014 I had stayed in the Grand Hotel for a workshop held there. The facilities and accomodation were fantastic, and it is spacious with some character. Close to great cafes and pubs and the bed was comfortable.
Cute house in a quiet little neighbourhood. Fully stocked kitchen including optional snacks and drinks sold a very reasonable prices. Preserved peaches are delicious. Hosts are very kind and accomodating. Plan to book here again when next in Whanganui.
Perfect location close to the shops and eateries. Unit was so warm, cosy and sparkling clean. We arrived late but didn't have to worry about getting the unit key as hotel owner left the unit unlocked for us. We will definitely be staying there again!
The Lady at reception was so nice! appreciate the early check in and also how kind she was - I booked this room for my parents to stay in while attending a birthday in Whanganui - Im glad I did . thank you very much for looking after them
Fabulous spacious room and very well appointed bathroom. Excellent location for someone that had never been to Whanganui before. Extremely clean. Being able to park outside our room was a bonus.
This is a family-run business, operated by a couple who are very enthusiastic. When we made a booking mistake, they helped us switch rooms. The hotel is clean, tidy, and well-equipped!
The location is great, very convenient for Whanganui. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained, despite the apparent age. The fan works well, despite the lack of other air-con.
