Unfortunately the visitors centre was closed in 2020, so there was no information about what to see and how to achieve this. We were recommended to visit Stewart Island, apparently being the main attraction. You needed to book online but there was no information
about the trip. At a cost of $200 each, rather expensive. Drove to Bluff to find out for ourselves, 30 kms but even less information. Very disappointing. Not much in the way of restaurants unless you are in to Asian food. One shopping centre, not much in it.

Nice flat walking, the new mall has all the usual shops plus some additional surprises. Shopping is great, streets very clean, Queens Park is lovely and well cared for and there is a lot of city centre development going on with improvements for locals and visitors alike. Amigos restaurant if you like chili and Mexican food is worth a try.

Great city on the up.
Great city on the up. Good selection of eateries and things to do and see. Most attractions are fairly close to the centre, and the airport is 5 minutes from there. I can happily recommend Invercargill for a visit.

Invercargill has a lot to offer. Queen's Park is a must-see. Aside from the beautiful gardens, there are nice bird aviaries and farmyard animals. It's a great place for families with a nice playground and cafe. Bill Richardson Transport World is a highlight, along with Oreti Beach which Bert Munro used as a race track. Hubber's Emporium and E Hayes are fantastic shops with many interesting things to see. There is a nice new mall and we found some good places to eat

Queens Gardens are a must, especially at rose time.
Queens Gardens are a must, especially at rose time. Ascot dinner excellent though a bit pricey.
I doubt anybody visits for he shopping ( e.g. one "mall " ) or eating out which is quite restricted.

This is a clean city with no obvious homelessness problem.
This is a clean city with no obvious homelessness problem. It is well provided with facilities and retail outlets. Some of the shops like Hubber's Emporium are just fascinating. The people are friendly. It is close to Bluff and marvelous beaches. I've heard it's not so good on a rainy day, but I wouldn't know. I would love to live in Invercargill but I feel they don't need more "northies" to come and push property values up. I will remain a grateful tourist.
Out in the countryside in a beautiful family home with stunning gardens and resident deer only 5 mins drive from Invercargill town. Bed comfortable, lovely towels, lovely breakfast with homemade muesli, stewed apricots, homemade jams, eggs if you want them. Great local knowledge for sights and places to visit. Anne-Marie and John and family are very welcoming. Evenings you can use kitchen to heat up simple evening meals if you prefer to eat in.
Magnificent building with a lot of character. Room was large and comfortable and warm . Parking was excellent. Was so welcoming in the evening to enjoy a evening drink by the fire before enjoying beautiful meals in the dining room .
The hosts were both very friendly and helpful and we look forward to staying in this lovely hotel again when in Invercargill,
Very clean and well appointed apartment. Had everything we needed for a 4 night stay including kitchen and related equipment. The facility was serviced everyday which was a real bonus! The hosts were very accommodating and allowed us to leave our bags with them on our final day following check out. Just a few minutes stroll into Invercargill main areas.
This place was a much nicer than expected. It was more like a home than a hotel. Would highly recommend especially for families. Super quiet, loads of parking both near our room and on the street. The kitchen and living area were both much larger than I realized. If you are staying in Invercargill this is a fantastic hotel.
It was close to town, food, park. Nice to have laundry facilities free. Haven't had that anywhere else on our trip and was much needed. Nice having a carport as we could pack the car without getting wet. Owner was very helpful on where to eat. Very clean. Considering cost of other motels we stayed at it was very reasonable.
The apartments have all what you need and they are spotless. The staff at the reception (young Philipino lady, I'm sorry I forgot the name) is exceptional and really accommodating. We will definitely stay again if we need to go to Invercargill.
Great value for money, our go to accommodation when visiting family in Invercargill. Staff friendly, motel is clean, warm & comfortable. Enjoyed the refurbished bathroom, and the extra TV in the bedroom is great for a family travelling.
Beiing In the Center of the City Center.
Very impressed how they did the old Post Office up with out knocking it down!
So close to the new Mall, bars and coffee shops. Its a different Invercargill that I once knew.
Will stay again!
Old style but superbly maintained and absolutely spotless....a breath of fresh air for us having travelled down the country staying at a range of hotels and motels that were sub-standard, this was 120%. Well done!
Great location. Easy parking. Brand new luxury accommodations. Very comfortable room with spacious bathroom that includes soaking tub. Great staff. Lots of dining options right in hotel.
I forgot my glasses and reader under my pillow, but not to worry the boss himself drove out to Invercargill airport to bring them to me.
Not many places would offer such kind service.
Merlyn is amazing and she keeps her lovely backpackers place immaculate. the photos don’t do it Justice. Clean, generous host, beautiful place, great location. absolutely loved my stay.
Good location central in the city, and for cheap budgets! Had the amenities you would want (showers and kitchen), allowed late check in and came out for it once understood.
Reception very friendly and good advice for Invercargill and onwards journey. Location next to tower and gardens. Big room. Kitchenette is good. Extra single bed.
Beautiful place with super welcoming and friendly owner. Feel so comfortable and warm. Everything was perfect with 5 star hotel breakfast. Highly recomended!
