If I had to skip 2 destinations on a long trip to NZ they would be Wellington and Cristchurch. Not a lot going on in either for a foreign traveller but at least Christchurch had good food options and a better climate.

Great city, there is still a lot of work going on around the city following the 2011 earthquake but the work completed so far looks fantastic. Oxford terrace is a beautiful place to sit and have a drink and something to eat. Dimitris Souvlaki is superb. Paddy McNaughtons and The Church are great places for a beer or 3.
Loved my stay there, hope to be back soon.

A very vibrant city with lots of retail, restaurants and plenty of outdoor activities. We zip lined at the Christchurch Adventure Park and it was awesome. A great place to visit if you love the outdoors. Autumn colours are amazing.

I grew up there but it is so different after the earthquakes of 2010+. A lot of strange modern architecture in the CBD which differers greatly to the previous old english feel of the city and most of it no longer feels like the place I grew up! A beautiful place to visit all the same.
Wild landscapes and rugged nature all at the doorstep. Arthurs Pass and Kaikoura as examples.

Such a pretty city, historic and modern with great food and beverage options, easy to walk around or grab a scooter if you want to cover more ground. The Fable was a great option to stay smack bang in the middle of town. We had our teenage children and they loved the city as well. The tram was outside our door, the shopping district a short walk and the open spaces and parks were a bonus. We walked to the cricket and loved the vibe at the Markets which has everything food and drink known to man. Lots of fun had in this city.

Christchurch is a lovely city still going through the revamping after the earthquake, but the feeling of the city is very peaceful and serene. There is plenty to see and do. If your fit you can walk everywhere in the cbd otherwise local buses get you places or the on off tram at a cost. Catch a local bus to the gondola. The botanical gardens are perfect. Punts on Avon are fun and calming. They allow for disabled people to get on and a higher seat. To much to say, go check it out yourself.
The hotel was just what we were looking for since we were only staying for a night to fly out of the Christchurch Airport the next morning. It was only a 5 minute walk to/from the airport but luckily also had a complimentary shuttle which we ended up using. The staff was very friendly, and there was even a scale in the lobby to weigh your bags before going to the airport. The hotel was also within walking distance to lots of restaurants and a supermarket. The room itself was very clean and had all of the amenities we needed.
We wanted a simple, clean room to spend one night in when we arrived in Christchurch. This place was perfect for that. The bathroom was clean, the beds clean and comfortable and the hotel was quiet. Great value for money being so close to the airport. The only reason we took a taxi instead of walking to the hotel was because it was bucketing rain and very late at night. We were able to walk to the Antarctic Centre from the hotel.
Family operated hotel located on a major road close to the airport. Room was quite soundproof and the I could not really hear any traffic noise. Pleasant staff and clean rooms. I had a rental car so I drove here before my flight the next day. Room has information for restaurants that deliver to the hotel. The hotel offers breakfast ordered in advance at reasonable rates. I did not have time to sample it.
The hosts were really nice. They live in a lovely property and the accommodation was very good, clean, comfortable and in a nice quiet area. Breakfast was also very good with cereals, toast, orange juice, fruit, etc. It is also a short walk to the Riccarton Sunday market, which was worth a visit. Overall a great place to stay especially if arriving or departing from Christchurch airport which is just up the road.
Hotel is very close to the centre of Christchurch and across the street from Great Regent Street. Lots of eateries closeby and a short walk across Cathedral Square to the Avon River and the bars and eateries located along the River. The room was spotlessly clean and modern. Good sized bathroom with lovely toiletries. We had views towards the town from the 10th floor.
This was an excellent hotel right next to the airport terminal, car rentals and bus stops so could not have been handier. The rooms and facilities were also excellent and we had a very comfortable stay the night before our flight out of Christchurch. The Antarctic Centre and some shops/restaurants are nearby (walkable) and it is easy to get a bus from/to Christchurch.
I love this hotel! This was our 2nd stay and it’s my go to hotel in Christchurch because of it amazing location, dwntwn across from the gardens and museum. The 2 bedroom apartments are very spacious, modern, comfortable, quiet and have great views. It’s excellent value for money and there’s a cafe below and a coffee truck outside.
We loved everything about the property. From the doorman,to Wade at the front desk, to our clean and quiet room, to the easy access to the airport ( they have a shuttle but we walked), to then food store right next door, this hotel is fabulous!! I was in heaven in that glorious bath tub and the robes made it even better.
Cheap (considering outrageous Christchurch standards) and within walking distance to the CBD. Clean and spacious, and it has a nice outside area to hangout. Plenty of parking spots available, although you have to share with the restaurant so it might be difficult at some times.
Modern, clean and sophisticated hotel close to Christchurch CBD. Staff are friendly and the cafe/cocktail bar is exceptional. The rooms are well laid out and the bathrooms are modern and functional. Car parking is available and is easy. Highly recommended.
This is our second stay at the Chateau, it was as good as the 1st time. The hotel is excellent from a location point of view, gardens, close to Hagley Park and CBD. We have stayed at other hotels in Christchurch and the Chateau by far is our preferred hotel.
Checking in was incredibly easy, the room was exceptionally clean and the design exceeded my expectations. Compared to some bigger chains, this hotel is now one of my favourites in Christchurch! Well done!
The location was great for UC, Riccarton and Christchurch, and the airport. The manager was really friendly welcoming and helpful. Plenty of food options around.
