The hotel location is ideal and in a really nice area close to lovely restaurants etc. While the comfort room was quite small, it had everything and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was really lovely with lots of homemade and local options and the breakfast staff were really nice. Reception were really helpful and they noted that it was really difficult to get a taxi in La Rochelle so we appreciate them ordering one for us in advance of departure.

I'd been to La Rochelle about 20 years ago for work and had little opportunity to do the tourist thing. A beautiful town, excellent market and shops and great dining. Go for it if those things float your boat.

Beautiful place to visit. Plenty to see and do.
Beautiful place to visit. Plenty to see and do. Great choice of restaurants.
Easy to get around; if you arrive by car, leave it parked up because everywhere in La Rochelle is mostly walkable. Use the bus to get to La Pallice (for the WWII sub base) and the Île de Ré etc. and take the local or TGV trains from the La Rochelle central station to get further afield.

Not much to add to what I have put in my property review.
Not much to add to what I have put in my property review. La Rochelle is a picturesque old sea port with a lot of history (a main reason for visiting was to research for a novel I am writing about the Huguenots-this city played a major part in the 16th and 17th century French wars of religion) great architecture, outstanding fresh food market speciality sea food. The salt water aquarium is world class, much better than the one in the Berlin zoo which I saw last year.
UK fights to the small local airport are from Stansted only, I think (check). Easy access by train from Paris or Nantes. I would think carefully about driving here as parking is VERY restricted in the old town but there are no doubt possibilities if you are staying further out, and the buses are very good.
Great place, I hope to visit again.

I visited the museums, Le Bunker, the open market, the aquarium and walked for miles. i went on a guided tour of the city which was very interesting. I ate in various restaurants and all the meals were excellent as was the service. I found the locals very friendly and helpful, even directing me back to the hotel when I was lost. It was a fabulous place to explore with lots of places to see and go. The people in the tourist office are very knowledgeable and helpful.
The hotel is lovely. A centuries old convent with a beautiful sitting room, garden and bar. The staff was so helpful and friendly. We loved the location. Walking distance to the old port and all that has to offer but situated in a quiet part of the neighborhood just behind the cathedral square. The hotel renovations kept much if the old world charm but injected some high design elements. Our room has a little balcony but we spent time in the garden, instead. We would love to return. Thanks for a great stay.
Staff very welcoming, professional, efficient and knowledgeable. A rare thing these days!!!
Hotel is beautifully decorated, everything new and clean. All facilities work well; shower for example is great!
Tea & coffee making machine was very welcome too; a real treat!
Breakfast great!! Mike’s better than all the other hotels we stayed at during our 2 weeks car tour of France!
Very well done Hotel St Nicolas! We will be back for sure 👍
We stayed in this hotel Mid-july for two nights and our experience could not have been better. The staff were friendly helpful and could not do more for us. La Rochelle is a great rugby town and I enjoyed my chat about the sport. Close to the town and the station. Highly recommend this hotel and will be back next time I holiday in La Rochelle. Lovely old hotel - at least where we were was. Great courtyard terrace for drinks and breakfast. Great location for exploring La Rochelle on foot (or by hire bike/scooter). Parking was close and stupidly cheap for a town trying to minimise cars. The staff were all fab too - helpful and chatty, happy to give recommendations on places they like to eat and drink too.
Very friendly staff and kind to help -- got to the hotel earlier and was able to check in ahead of time and get some rest from an early flight. The reception staff was very friendly and gave great restaurant recommendations and even helped me send my ring forgotten in the room after checkout -- thank you so so much!
Very central location and easy to get to places
Great location for exploring La Rochelle. You know what you're going to get with B+B Hotels: they're not fancy but they're clean and comfy and good value for money. On-site parking was an extra fee but worth it - on-site electric charger was a bonus.
The hotel is on the waters edge and there is a fabulous walk to the centre of La Rochelle - perfect if you have a dog. We had a balcony over looking the carpark which was quiet but you can also have a seaview room which would be amazing.
On arrival the staff were very helpful and the hotel reception and general presentation was excellent, we were looking forward to a nice stay for a couple of nights right near the harbour and right in the centre of La Rochelle.
I loved the vibe of the hotel and I loved how close it was to the beach area. Sunset and view were AMAZING.
You also have rentable bikes close to the hotel so you can ride all along the shore and the marine.
Amazing.
Brilliantly located for the city, nice hotel and excellent staff, very nice stay, breakfast was good, although considering we were in France surprised to not see croissants at breakfast.
Family room was great size
The hotel is perfect for a stay in La Rochelle. Great location, spotlessly clean, good room size, lovely shower and amazing breakfast selection. Every member of staff was very friendly and professional.
Location is great, easy walking to the port, the restaurants, and the market in La Rochelle. Bed is very comfortable. Service excellent. Breakfast is the best I've ever had at a restaurant in France.
The lady Virginia was absolutely a pure lady and made the trip so easy .. she met us off the bus was after texting me before I travelled a lovely touch to the experience of La Rochelle
What a magical way to spend a few days in La Rochelle. Right in the middle of the Old Port, the location is superb. My kids loved playing pirates on the boat.
