Piazza del Popolo is considered the heart of Ravenna and was historically the civil and administrative centre of the city. It features the 15th-century Palazzetto Veneziano, the 17th-century Palazzo Comunale, and the 18th-century clock tower.
The most popular landmarks in the city are San Vitale, Mausoleo di Galla Placida, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Dante Alighieri’s Tomb, whilst the Cervia Thermal Baths and Mirabilandia theme park are great options for a day trip.
After a day of discovery and sightseeing, be sure to head towards the coast for a revitalising swim or relaxing sun bathe at one of the several beaches scattered along the coastline of the Adriatic Sea.

Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic.
Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic. The city allows you to visit the museum of Alighieri Dante, one of the most important poet in Italy's culture. Also you can visit the Dante Alighieri's tomb. The city have a lot of bar to drink, seat and listen music, restaurants to eat the excellent and traditional italian food (for example piadina).

Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit.
Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit. It's easy to get around the town center and there are a lot of places to eat--across all price ranges.
So many beautiful mosaics. It's worth taking a tour for these. We did a guided tour with Silvia Giogoli at guidaravenna.com and it was worth the cost. She is so knowledgable about the history of the city and the mosaics in particular. Really gives you a better appreciation of the art.
If they block the guide's name and website, it was the guided walking tour offered via the booking site called Mosaic Tiles Guided Tour.

Great to see the mosaics and Dante's tomb. All the mosaics within
walking distance. Excellent restaurants. Good to have a look around the harbour and stroll along the beach.
Excellent train connection to Bologna.
It is worthwhile to just walk in a meaningless way to enjoy the city and its people. The people are very friendly and very helpful.

One full day in Ravenna was perfect for visiting the amazing Byzantine mosaics. Be sure to go to Sant' Apollinare Nuovo to get your tickets to the various sites--two require a timed entry, so have your day planned. All of the mosaics are wonderful and well worth seeing, but our favorites were the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia behind the Basilica, and Cappella di Sant'Andrea inside the Archiepiscopal Museum. Dante's Tomb was neat, as were the mosaics under water at the Basilica di San Francesco. And off the main tourist trail is the little Arian Baptistry. . . heck, you gotta see 'em all!
To get the most out of seeing these treasures, read up on the Arian Heresy and the conflict between the Goths/Arians and the Justinian Christians. Different hidden symbols everywhere. There's a short summary in the Rick Steve's tour guides that's helpful.
And when you're tired of mosaics, stop at the covered market for some amazing food. It would be a great "half-way" point for lunch (wish we'd known).

Great little city with virtually everything within walking distance. The late antique basilicas and their mosaics are truly astonishing and there is a great selection of bars, cafes and restaurants as well. Go to Profumo di Piadina for a great lunchtime snack! Museums are also good, especially the Mosaic Museum Tamo and the Classe Museum, presenting Ravenna's astounding history in an impressive and engrossing manner, one of their best I've visited and only a short t bus ride away.

This is a cute part of Italy with lots of history.
This is a cute part of Italy with lots of history. Would of liked an extra day to see more of it but we were leaving on a cruise from the port. The Mosaic sites were incredible. And the food at the Market Place was amazing. The Plaza was wonderful with lots of shops, restaurants and markets. The people were very friendly but the transportation was horrible. We had to walk from the train station to our accommodation's and it was a 30 min walk. No taxi would help us or barely any around and the ones present were very rude. They really need to work on there local transportation.
The location is fantastic, just 5 - 10 minutes' walk to the attractions, piazzas, mosaic museums and yet, it's situation in a quiet neighbourhood. Also an easy 12 minutes' walk to the train station. It's clean and comfortable. I especially love the breakfast fare. Such a generous offering of super food range of nuts, grains and seeds! Even Gojiberry is there! The host Filipo and sons were so warm and friendly. I really feel at home! Highly recommended to stay in Hotel Diana if you're in Ravenna! Best value for money!
Ravenna Suite was a beautiful apartment, quite large and spacious. Giusy did a great job of showing us around and sharing information about Ravenna. The kitchen was well outfitted. Several lovely snacks and beverages were provided, and the basic kitchen essentials such as oil, salt, and pepper were provided. The location was perfect for accessing all of the sights in Ravenna. Close to the train station, supermarket and plenty of restaurants.
The hotel was really adorable and the room was well-equipped with modern amenities yet still held the old world charm of the building. Michael and his receptionist couldn't have been more friendly! The location was fantastic and very close to a number of restaurants, shops, gelato, a laundromat, and public transportation. The breakfast was tasty as well. We'd happily stay at this little gem again any time while in Ravenna!
M-Club has a range and quality of comforts that are extremely rare in Italian B&Bs. We stayed in the attic room and had a sparkling bathroom with plenty of hot water (and bar soap!), electric velux windows and blinds, fast free reliable wifi, a room safe, a bar fridge and two flat screen tvs with 100+ channels. The room is serviced daily - this should go without saying but cannot be taken for granted in Italy.
We were warmly greeted by Anna. She gave us mainly helpful tips for touring Ravenna and provided us a map as well as use of a travel guide in English. We also appreciated her restaurant recommendations. Also, breakfast at the hotel was top-notch.
For parking, we can recommend nearby Garage Navoni. We were provided a discounted rate as guests of Casa Masoli. Antonio is a wizard at parking Tetris!
Beautiful charming hotel in the centre of Ravenna. Historical former religious property with a chapel annex . Our room was just next to the little charming chapel... there is also a beautiful garden , where breakfast is serve!
But the best was the free bike complimentary for the full afternoon ( this is a must if u want to visit in a short time all the Churches and Bizantine site)...
The hotel is in the heart of the centro storico, which is perfect to walk anywhere you want in Ravenna. All the historical spots, restaurants and cafes are nearby.
The room was of a really good size, with a kitchen and dining table in the hallway and a separate bedroom. It was nice to have so much space.
Staff was super nice and helpful, big compliment!
This hotel is like an oasis in the middle of the bustling city: beautiful, comfortable and close to all the key landmarks in Ravenna. What was really outstanding was the exceptional staff who went the extra mile to ensure we see Ravenna in its true splendour. We had an excellent experience at this hotel and would strongly recommend it.
Take me back! This was my favorite accommodation on my one-month trip to Italy. The rooms are incredibly spacious and clean! Valentino is super accommodating and helpful and will do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. There was also a wonderful breakfast with the best croissants! I will for sure be back! I miss it!
Location is great (on the border of the historic centre, at a walking distance from all attractions and lots of stores, restaurants and bars). My room was very clean and the bathroom was functional. The personnel are nice and kind. I had a personal problem that the hotel managing helped me to solve in the best way.
Stayed in Ravenna before we embarked on an RC Cruise the next day. I messaged the hotel asking for a taxi to take us to the port. They quickly came back with a transport provider who were as equally excellent.
The hotel staff were so nice and friendly. Excellent location and close to restaurants and bars, etc
Excellent staff. Very friendly and courteous. I was given a nice junior suite upgrade. I found in the room a nice letter from the hotel administration with a small gift. The breakfast was superb. The breakfast staff very friendly and courteous. The best hotel I have stayed so far this year!!!!
Daniela was so amazing after we had a major flight delay. She arranged transportation from Ravenna train station to the hotel and made a dinner reservation for our group so that we were able to enjoy an amazing meal after our long journey.
Yulia was very friendly owner of the hotel and she made our stay very pleasant. Excellent breakfast, very close to historical and nicely kept clean hotel, I would recommend this hotel and would love to come back next time in Ravenna!
We have been three weeks all over in Italy and this was our last accommodation on this trip. But even when I look back on my many many other stays, that was by far the best B&B we have had. All points in all categories.
Great location, 5 minutes by car from the city centre and also from the highway. We got good tips from Maria, and thanks a lot to her for that. Good breakfast. I can really recommend the hotel for a stay in Ravenna.
Excellent location, quiet at night even being on Ravenna city center. Restaurants and bars are a short walk from the hotel. Staff is polite and ready to help, would definitely stay there again.
The staff is very helpful and cooperative and kind. The breakfast includes a wide variety on Continental options but not eggs and bacon since we are in Italy and you may find pizza
The room was a bit small. But the bed was comfortable. The hotel is charming and clean. The people were very nice and accommodating. I will stay again if I am in Ravenna.
The property was absolutely gorgeous! Our sixth day in Italy, third place to stay, I said to my better half, “So far this is the highlight of my trip”!!!
