Located just across the lagoon from the Venetian islands, Mestre is the mainland part of Venice and has cheaper accommodations, with easy transport links to the historic center. However, the city has more than just cheap hotels going for it.
Host to several festivals throughout the year, huge Parco San Giuliano has fantastic views across the lagoon towards the Campanile and dome of St Mark’s Cathedral. Also worth a wander round is Forte Marghera, a former Austrian fortress on an island in the middle of star-shaped canals. One canal continues into the center of the city and is lined with restaurants and bars.
Pavement cafes can also be found in Piazza Ferretto, a triangular square with a 12th-century clock tower at one end and the Teatro Toniolo at the other. This popular spot for a passegiata also has a modern fountain and several boutiques. Also good for shopping in Mestre is the Le Barche center, a rather uninspiring building from the outside, but packed full of stores.
As for nightlife, Mestre has a number of clubs, including one at Tessera near to Venice Marco Polo Airport. Don’t fly out of there without having tried the little homemade cakes called "mignon".

Mestre is a small place, there’s no Uber app so you need to go with the public transport all the time. The locals don’t speak English, get a wifi connection at the center where is the train and bus station and search for bus number that will take you close to your hotel.
It’s a nice town as long you get used with the way in and out. You can arrive around 15 mins to Venice from the city center w/ bus number 2.

I stayed in Mestre as the base to travel to Venice. It was the best move. Avoid paying too much for the Venice hotels. Stay close to Mestre train station and you could be in Venice in 10 minutes. Enjoy the best of both worlds.

We only had a three night stay at the Hotel Delfino in Mestre
It is the perfect position for a value for money ,easy base to visit Venice from.
Unfortunately we did not have time to visit Mestre itself as our focus was always towards Venice.
Mestre is a very short journey by bus two and from the airport and stops outside the hotel which means your holiday can begin within the hour. Perfect. The supermarket was well stocked with anything you should need. With places to eat and regular buses to move around or by foot

This is the second time I have stayed in Hotel Garibaldi, it maybe a small hotel but has a huge heart! Luigi and his colleagues are so kind and helpful and show interest in how you spend your time. The No.2 bus stops right outside to take you to the centre of Venice. Hotel Garibaldi is excellent quality for a a very reasonable price, breakfast will set you up for the day. I will be back again soon!!

Mestre is close to Venice and a much cheaper alternative...
Mestre is close to Venice and a much cheaper alternative though you definitely miss out on the old, traditional feel of Venice (I had stayed in a hotel in Venice another time and it was wonderful there). If you eat in Mestre, it's much cheaper. We ate at 'Da Michele'. Excellent food, very good value for money. We did not have any time to explore Mestre per se, though.
Hotel Centrale is located not far from the Mestre train station, and across the street from a bus stop where you can catch a bus to Venice. The tobacco store next to the hotel sells bus tickets. Traveling with my son, we were able to afford two single rooms for less than what doubles cost in Verona. My room was very clean and comfortable. It was also quiet, even though located next to the staircase. There was a pharmacy near-by, and options for coffee and a light breakfast. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast, which we did not try.
Modern and clean hotel, nice room, very kind staff, good breakfast. Location is great: a 5-minute walk from Mestre Train station: there, you can either catch bus n. 2 to go to Venice centre or the train (trains run every 5/10 minutes all day long, only a 10-minute ride to Santa Lucia in the centre of Venice). A couple of good options for dining out close to the hotel: restaurants “Da Michele” and “Pasta e Pizza” (the latter serves excellent pizzas, also to go, and great value for money!).
If you're staying in Mestre, the location is very nice. Busses and trams to Venice go close by, and the bus to the airport goes from the front of the hotel.
Also if there happens to be a public transport strike (like when I was in Venice), or you just want to see Mestre, the center of Mestre is close and there's also the Forte Marghera castle for some local action. In Mestre the M9 museum is worth a look (no crowds), and Conestoga Of Cazzador has the best cratf beers in Venice.
It is very close to Venice and the bus station is literally in front of the hotel. However it is not very easy to go to Mestre station. There are not so many lines going there and the schedule is not reliable. The room was very clean but super basic. Instead of instant coffee, you expect proper coffee or coffee machine in the room given it is a 4 star hotel. There is also no slippers or any toiletries in the room. Breakfast was good enough and the personnel was kind and helpful.
everything was excellent! The room’s was very clean and comfortable, the staff cleaned the room every day. The staff was so nice and enthusiasm, satisfied all of our requests and questions, also guided us how to travel around just like a tour guide. You can also buy “venezia unica city pass” tickets to use all of transportation around Mestre and Venice. The breakfast included in our stay was very delicious and the dinner was nice too.
The location is perfect for a short stay in Venice, just a ten minute walk from Venezia Mestre train station and a large supermarket right over the road from the property. This was helpful for us to pick up food for the day which saves some dollars on the holiday budget.
John, our warm and friendly host, was supportive and most helpful in welcoming and explaining the property to us. We hope many more guests come to your apartments.
The host was very helpful and friendly! The location is great, close to a supermarket, and to the bus stop (to get to Venice). Also it's near the train station, so it's very convenient if you need to travel somewhere else in Italy. The heating system works well, the apartment was warm, despite the very cold weather outside (I stayed at Casa Milena in winter). Wifi works well! It's very easy to go to Venice from Casa Milena!
If you wish to spend one night or a few days in Venice without breaking the bank, yet enjoying world-class amenities, a spacious room, and friendly, efficient service, look no further! Yes, you won't be sleeping right on the Canal Grande, but do you need to, when trains to/from Mestre Station (literally across the street from Hotel Bologna) run continuously and cost EUR 1.45 (one way)?
This is definitely a good option for a reasonably-priced stay during a visit to Venice. Train connections to Venezia St. Lucia (main city of Venice) are extremely reliable, cheap and frequent, and this property is just a 5-7 min walk from Venezia Mestre station. The common lobby area and cafe at the entrance are great with a lot of space for hanging out or getting some work done.
Excellent location to take the train into Venice as the hotel is mere steps from the Mestre train station. The restaurant has a good selection of menu items and the prices are not too expensive. The room we had was spacious and had all amenities. Good dining options including a grocery store were within a few minutes walk from the hotel.
I just wanted something simple, affordable, and conveniently located to Venice Mestre station and the ATVO station for the airport bus. Hotel Trieste met those expectations. Nothing fancy, but helpful staff and everything needed in a basic room. Only issue was wifi quality inconsistency in the room, but it was fine in the common area.
Hotel staff were very friendly and excellent with communication; they were very catering for our needs with breakfast (which was excellent) and the room was spotless.
Nestled in the heart of Mestre, it's a stone's throw from the main square of the town, and a short walk to a quick 4L bus trip to Venice
The room was extremely spacious for a hotel room based near Venice
The location was quite close to the Mestre train station - which was 10-15 minutes away from Venice
The hotel is situated close to several supermarkets and restaurants (including a McDonald's for those late night munchies!)
very close to the train station and very clean. A 10 minute train ride to Venezia San Lucia gets you to the majority of places you want to visit in Venice so it was not an issue. very comfortable and clean and the staff was professional so it felt safe for solo travelers. :)
Nice small and quite comfortable hotel, very good accesibility to Venezia, directly by tram. The hotel has plentiful breakfast. Both receptionists were very nice and they provided a lot of practical info about Venice, transportation in Venice and etc.
Staff was super helpful and friendly. Hotel was newly renovated, quite clean and warm. For the money I paid, I think I got a great deal, being close to Venice Mestre train station. Breakfast was really delicious, Wi-Fi great.
Great hospitality, great location very close to Mestre Center and very easy with public transports from / to Venezia and Marco Polo Airport. Will definitely pick this one again on our next visit to Venice
