Macau is the true east meets west philosophy. Buddhist temples coexist with Baroque churches, peaceful oriental parks are overshadowed by mega-casinos and cobblestone streets are filled with rickshaws.
Hong Kong’s neighbour across the Pearl River strait consists of the mainland that borders the People's Republic of China and 2 major islands joined by the Cotai Strip. Coloane island is a natural wonderland with its mountains and beaches, whereas Taipa includes Macau International Airport and residential suburbs.
The prominent Macau Tower dominates the skyline of this former Portuguese colony and denotes the coming of age of modern-day Macau. It has set the stage for an economic boom with Vegas-style casinos lining the Macau Peninsula waterfront.
Historic sites and cuisine are important factors in this shining tourism star of China. St. Paul’s Cathedral was the largest Catholic church in Asia at the time with its ruins dating back to the 16th century. The fusion of Mediterranean flavours and traditional Chinese cooking methods makes eating out in the capital an unforgettable experience.

I would recommend to stay at Taipa area, where all the newer casino themed hotels are located. I particularly enjoy viewing the Grand Canal Shoppes inside Venetian Macao. Take a day to sight see St. Paul cathedral ruins, Senado Square and drop by the historical A-Ma temple. Enjoyed overall the good Cantonese and Portuguese cuisines.

The locals you meet are generally a hit or miss - either extremely friendly and hospitable, or terribly fierce. But nevertheless, still a great place to visit and enjoy the cool weather. Definitely explore the Cotai strip and the various light shows/ performances - this can probably keep you entertained and occupied for a couple of days. Take another day for the historical areas and maybe even the older casinos.

In some aspects Macau is an expensive version of China, with some areas looking rather tired and in need of upkeep, but there are plenty of European restaurants and cultural explorations to make it worth at least one visit. The hotels in my opinion are a bit overrated/overpriced, but fun for one visit to see what all the fuss is about (I live in mainland China). The lower prices here make it a good shopping trip for a long weekend break combined with some sightseeing - the Portuguese influenced areas with their narrow winding streets are nice to visit with plenty of small shops and interesting historical links.

It was Christmas when we visited the Ruins of Saint Paul and there was an orchestra to celebrate the event. The place was crowded but we're happy with the experience of walking to the ruins with a lot of free taste on the way.

I know Macau very well having lived there on and off over the years, but it's certainly changed since I last lived there and seems perpetually busy (going by my two visits in 2023). The old-world charm is still evident in Macau (Leal Senado area) and in Taipa Village but as I said, it just seems to be busy at all times, so not really a tranquil experience. I'm not a fan of the big Casinos (and the whole Cotai area), but if you want see some delightful examples of colonial architecture and can out up with the crowds, then Macau is definitely worth a visit. I used to go to Coloane (Has Sa Beach and Fernandos) and Colaone Village in the old days - I would expect they would be less hectic as most of the crowds stay in Macau and Cotai.

There's nothing that I don't remember not liking Macau.
There's nothing that I don't remember not liking Macau. Staying for a short period of the makes me feel relax and I did enjoy the sorrounding views. I definitely would recommend Macau for people who wants to explore more about Macau. It was awesome!
The whole vibe of the hotel tends to be more vibrant and modern yet sophisticated compare to other hotels in Macau which are mostly traditionally decorated with golden and white colour. The bonus for girls with long hair is that there's Dyson hair dryer which has saved lots of time for me definitely.
The services and facilities at Away Spa at W Hotel was absolutely amazing as well. One of the best massage experience I have ever had in Macau.
The hotel is absolutely stunning, we loved the decor in the lobby, bedroom, garden, buffet restaurant, not to mention the gorgeous indoor swimming pool.
The staff were attentive and helpful.
We had a great experience at the spa as well, and enjoyed a massage and facial treatment.
The breakfast was tasty and diverse, catering to both local and Western tastes.
And with free shuttles going almost anywhere in Macau, it was easy to get around.
Stayed one night for the Macau Marathon - it was a perfect location for this as just a short walk to the race start. It's also an easy walk to Taipa Village so not a bad spot if you don't want to be in the major Casino hotels. Room was adequate if a little dated (carpet not particularly nice) with decent amenities and comfy beds.
The staff were exceptional, cannot praise them enough. The hotel itself has many great features including the restaurants and cafe, the free shuttle service, and the gym was one of the best I have seen in a hotel. Location was good, pretty easy walk to most points of interest in Macau. The pillow menu is a must!
The hotel located on the hill which makes the view cool and is easy to access city by free shuttle bus. Breakfast wasn’t that great, limited choice. Staffs are helpful, rooms are clean and comfortable (we booked 3 rooms), price is cheaper than expected. We’ll definitely book this hotel again for our next visit.
The accommodations were excellent! Everything was perfect. This hotel was amazing. The staff are incredible and welcoming. The rooms are large and clean. The spa, restaurant and pool facilities are beautiful and well maintained. Best hotel we stayed at on our vacation. Definitely recommend and will return.
We wanted to do sightseeing in old town areas, so location wise is closer, but perhaps the roads were too busy outside, the hotel lobby were filled with Casino guests with no seats left for kids while waiting for check-in, the casino entrance was too close to the hotel check-in reception to my liking…
The hotel offers complimentary shuttle buses to many cross-border options, which is super convenient to get in and out of Macau. The location at Cotai Strip is good and the breakfast was excellent. The room is also up to hotel category standards.
Very comfy beds, huge room with nice view on the bridge. Very clean and the bathroom got a shower and bath tub. The breakfast was fantastic. Especially the concierge was very friendly and attentive. The price for a 5 star hotel was amazing.
The bay view room is awesome. Facing Macau Tower and bridges. Although hotel does not have shuttle bus, we can take free shuttle bus from MGM Macau to MGM Cotai/ferry terminal/airport. We had a wonderful stay for our wedding anniversary.
Good value hotel. A little off the main path, depending on what you’re in Macau for. It’s basically a very good hostel in terms of facilities, but the price reflects this and holds good value. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Everything about the hotel. Starting with the staff who unfortunately I don’t remember his name, he worked earlier in Abu Dhabi Emirates palace. He helped us a lot during the check in and made it very smooth and upgraded our room.
The hotel is good! Very good the cheapest option in ENTIRE MACAU, but they ask for s estupid deposit, it is nonsense! And the want to make the deposit striktly in Card or Cash i did not like that why a deposit for only 1 night
Luxurious and modern hotel room, comfy beds. Staff were very helpful. My mum accidentally left her shirt in the hotel and we only realised after we left Macau. Hotel staff arranged for it to be sent back to our home.
Absolutely loved everything about this hotel!! It’s perfect for young people, and families with kids too. There is even a cinema there! Lots of Korean couples book it, and they know quality things!
This hotel has everything that a tourist needs. From the free shuttle bus to and from the bus terminal and also conveniently integrated with large various shopping experience.
Breakfast good with wide choice of food. Location a bit away from centre so needed to rely on a taxi or buses which was okay but a bit of a wait for a taxi from hotel.
