FAQs about hotels in Catania

A Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

Located on Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

With the busiest airport in Sicily, Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Catania is easily accessible by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guest houses or hostels Booking.com offers.

The city of Catania is an exceptionally dirty city, where the strong influence of past poverty is strongly felt. It's one of the uglier cities we've visited in Sicily, but it's definitely worth seeing and experiencing.

Catania is nice for a couple of days. You feel unsafe when you walk far from via Etnea. The main street is fantastic, the food is not expensive. A lot of churches to visit. If you can, visit Taormina and Cefalu. Magnificent places for one day tour.

Exploring the main sightseeings of Catania could be done within a day. If a tourist is more detailed and interested in spending time in museums, then they could easily do it in 2 days. Catania is a good accommodation base from where tourists can organize visits to other sightseeings in Sicily. Driving in Sicily (especially in Palermo and Catania) could be quite challenging for people not used to driving in an environment where there are rules which are not very much obeyed by the drivers.

A beautiful but unfortunately unmaintained city.

A beautiful but unfortunately unmaintained city. There are beautiful buildings, interesting places to eat the local food and friendly people. When you decide to visit Catania be prepared for a lot of garbage on the streets, sidewalks and in some places unpleasant smells. The city government should definitely get very serious about cleaning and maintaining this beautiful city.

The bedrooms were really modern and had a lot of privacy for a shared hostel room. Aircon was a big bonus as it was 38 degrees. The square where there are lovely restaurants is a few minutes away by foot. Staff were friendly and organised a hike up mount Etna once/twice a week. To be honest I did not spend much time in Catania itself as I used it as a base since it was close to the airport I came from, and was going back to. It is really a nice location to do day trips to other areas of Sicily and to climb Mount Etna.

We stayed here twice: before and after a week of sailing. Hotel has easy, 20 min access to the AirPort, 10 min by taxi to plazza del d’uomo. It has a pool, is clean, has working AC, very good and varous breafast, staff speaks english! All the above is not obvious in Sycylia, and in Catania center. What else, which is not common at All, you Can have lunch. Free bar in the room, kettle with coffe Spacious rooms with either patio or balcony

This was our second stay at Sicily Luxury B&B: we began and ended our six weeks in southern Italy here. As noted in the previous review, everything about this lodging is great: breakfasts, location, facilities, and staff. Paid street parking easily available within a 5-10 minute walk. Highly recommended as a base for exploring Catania, Taormina, Messina (don't miss the Caravaggios in the Regional Museum there), and Etna.

The hotel is located on a pedestrian street and has an extremely convenient parking garage near the hotel, just outside the ZTL. Very good location, close to the ALIBUS bus that comes from Catania airport, about 15-20 minutes from Piazza Duomo and Piazza Borsellino station, from where you can take buses to other destinations. I liked the big, tall room, large bathroom, equipped with dryer. The hotel garden is full of vegetation. Very close by, there is a great Botanical Garden, free entrance.

This place is spacious and well equipped. I slept better here than I ever have at a hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the place has A/C, which is a must in Sicily. We couldn’t believe that we found a hotel a 5 minute walk from the Catania airport: which was perfect for catching an early morning flight, eliminating the stress of trying to make it to the airport in time from Catania or Taormina. The bed was comfortable and any noise from planes went unnoticed. Don’t be expecting great views. There are car parks in the area.
