FAQs about hotels in Bologna

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.

Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

Bologna is a lovely city with many historic buildings and museums and dozens of fabulous restaurants. It's also a convenient centre to reach other interesting Italian cities by a short rail journey. This time we visited Ferrara and Faenza. Last visit we had a day in Modena and a few days in Ravenna. Neither Venezia nor Firenze are too far for a day trip. Maybe next time though there's still Parma and Verona on the bucket list.

Everything is great about Bologna especially if you're a young person. Great food, not very expensive and mostly positive and friendly people. A lot of students in Giuseppe Verdi Plaza was great to see. There's plenty of cheap food that is high quality but even the high end restaurants are not very expensive. Nice architecture and everything is close together (train station, city center etc). I loved Bologna there's nothing not to like about it!

I found Bologna a very beautiful city. Easy to walk around with many interesting buildings. I am 78 and found walking easy. I found the hop on and off bus excelkent value . I would recommend getting the 2day ticket. There are a range of eateries so one can grab a slice of pizza or have a full meal. The aperol spritz are served with small savoury delights. The food is good. The people friendly.

Very interesting city. Very walkable. The university area is fascinating as is the history of the town - underground canal system, oldest university, etc. It is slightly less busy that other major Italian cities. Great food and nice vibe with it still feeling like a university town (youthful). Had an especially good meal at Da Nello's near Piazza Maggiore. Lots of construction and restoration going on but it didn't really detract too much.

One of the most beautiful cities of Europe, the weather was great and there was a great crowd on the streets. The food n people are nice. You can find history in every corner. We walked almost everywhere. Had an eating tour which was very nice.. Go to Via Pescherie Vecchie, for sure you'll find a spot to dine:) If you have few days you can take a tour to Ravenna to see Dante's tomb, the famous mosaics n have lunch at the Mercato Coperto. I didn't get enough, sure will go back:)

Bologna is a very friendly city with a laid back vibe and very safe....the general prices to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner were extremely reasonable which was a nice surprise! Make sure to get the little train up to San Luca, but do it on a good clear day as the views are amazing! We loved "Eataly" and "Roberto Bistrot" and try all the ice cream shops....Bellisimo!!

This is a beautiful hotel in every way. The rooms are classical and comfortable and have everything you need. Each room has a it’s own decor theme. The breakfast is outstanding and one of the best I’ve had in Italy. The original art and sculpture all around the hotel is fascinating. The oil paintings in the breakfast room are so good they look like photographs. I would’ve bought one if I could afford it! Staff are professional, courteous and helpful. I will stay here again. It is also very central and convenient to all the sight.

Small compact hotel that is an oasis with lovely small garden with diverse mature pines & conifers on the outskirts of Bologna, convenient to the airport in a slightly commercial area. Lovely mosaic pebbled ground floor reception & dining area, with lovely paintings too. Bedrooms with lovely high ceilings, minimalist nice touches ie the ringed ceiling lampshade, comfy beds with funky orange bed heads, lovely tiled bathrooms with marble effect, nice shower. Nice decor, particularly the red chairs in dining area. Nice breakfast

The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the owner (Alessandro) was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend Milleventi Apartments for anyone visiting downtown of Bologna. I have stayed at many of hotels/apartments but this was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. I found the area safe and quiet and walked back to the hotel every night when it was dark and had no issues. Just had 1 night here, but was happy with the stay. The room was large and spacious and the breakfast spread was varied, especially for Italian standards. There was an extra charge for fried eggs/bacon etc, however there were plenty of other great foods to enjoy that you don't feel like you needed them. Lots of restaurants in walking distance and took a bicycle to get into the centre of Bologna which was a great way to explore. Good parking in the hotel.

The hotel is centrally located, minutes walk from the historical center of Bologna. There are supermarkets and shops and restaurants right across the street. we had a studio apartment which was very spacious and had all the necessary, from an aesthetic perspective the decor was very basic, it was on the ground floor looking into a small courtyard so not a lot of light coming in. but otherwise very clean and practical.

Wonderful large apartment nicely finished and decorated. Very well located to visit all around center of Bologna. Decent access to bus to get to and from the central train station (and airport). Close to Bologna Centrale (5 minute walk) and easily walkable to the town centre (10 minutes). We booked a Deluxe room which was huge and had a balcony. The hotel is enormous and obviously designed for conferences but is perfectly good for a leisure stay. Breakfast was fine but is on an industrial scale! Hotel Bologna Airport offers very clean and well-organized rooms. The service is impeccable. The location is close to the airport but you still need a cab to reach it. Good location near Bologna's central train station. Also an easy walking distance from the city centre. The buffet breakfast was varied and very good with both sweet and savory food. The hotel had a nice quaint feel wich was rather nice.

This hotel has one of the best restaurants I visited while in Italy. The salad was the best my wife has ever had. The owner did a great job of arranging transportation for us to the airport. The room was very comfortable and clean.
