The fortressed town of Cuenca is a hidden gem in the province of Castilla La Mancha and is a popular destination for tourists visiting Madrid or Valencia.
Cuenca is best represented in its medieval old town as well as the unique Hanging Houses (Las Casas Colgadas) which stand aloft on one of the deep canyons surrounding the city, and show a prime example of the common housing of 15th-century Cuenca.
Upon visiting the Old Town you will be welcomed by the remains of an ancient Arab fortress, El Castillo along with the chiming bells of Mangana Tower.
There is a variety of art galleries and restaurants which are situated in the newer side of town, whilst popular places to see are the Cuenca Cathedral, Museum of Spanish Abstract Art and the Archaeological Museum.

Cuencan keskiaikainen upeasti säilynyt vanha kaupunki on ehdottomasti vierailun arvoinen matkakohde. Yövyimme cuencassa yhden yön pidemmän road tripin aikana. Tänä aikana emme sattuneet tarvitsemaan ravintolaruokia, joten valitettavasti vanhan kaupungin ruokaravintolat jäi kokeilematta vaikka Cuenca on valittu vuoden 2023 Espanjan "ruokapääkaupungiksi" ja toinen toistaan kutsuvampia ravintoloita olisi ollut tarjolla. Vietimme vierailustamme toisen päivän osittain läheisessä maauimalassa (Piscina municipal Playa Artificial) joka oli viihtyisä ja vesi joessa oli ihanan viileää.JenniSuomi
