The park where the Greek ruins are situated is quite isolated, so if you are coming by public transport give yourself plenty of time to get there before dark. There is nothing much around there at night.

Paestum has an AMAZING set of well-preserved ruins, considering they were build some 2,500 years ago! We spent about 3-4 hours there (a little over an hour in the museum, and then a few more hours walking through the ruins. They were amazing to behold. The app downloaded from the museum website (Parco Archeologico di Paestum) was very helpful to learn about the ruins as we walked through them. The kids got rather tired though, so it was good to have a gelato break after leaving the ruins at the nearby cafe.

Some of the finest Greek temples in the world...in Southern Italy! Not to be missed. After time in Venice, we took the train to Bari, rented a card and (in turn) visited one day/night in: Alberobello, Matera, and Paestum. What a wonder trip. It was off-season, which just meant there were no crowds. We had a wonderful time! After Paestum we continued to the Amalfi coast, Pompeii and then to Rome.

Paestum is a fascinating historical site.
Paestum is a fascinating historical site. It has been well preserved and is well worth exploring. The archeological park is well maintained and easy to see in about four hours. The adjacent museum is very new, with an interesting collection of artifacts found in the park. The shops and restaurants lining the roads along the park boundary are fairly typical tourist focused businesses. One exception is the “Museum Cafe”, closest to the museum. It has excellent gelato, and even has babas.

The ruins are spread over a very large area and consist of mainly low stone walls but with three large temples still intact. The museum is a wonderful building of marble faced walls & pillars exhibiting many excellent paintings on the recovered stone slabs from the ruins plus jewellry and pottery. Very fine work and gives such a good idea of the lives of the inhabitants and what they admired.
The entrance fee also covers the ruin complex and is a much reduced price for EU citizens.
The modern town is just that and has various usual amenities.

Of all the sites we saw in Magna Graecia, Paestum was for us the highlight. The amazingly well preserved temples, the vast archaeological display of the city, the still-standing walls, the museum.... these are truly a treasure to be treasured and to be enjoyed by those interested in the history of Magna Graecia.
The beach at this hotel is second to none on this stretch. Private, and the sunset every night directly across from the hotel makes this a stunning location.
The breakfast was not great, and there was an extremely limited selection of cold breakfast options, with no hot food. But I think this is probably down to the fact that we were there out of season. One thing that is unforgivable is instant coffee. Especially in Italy! Just made sure to order an espresso and NOT an Americano.
We will be going back, though. without a doubt.
The staff at Hotel le Palme was so wonderful. The were so accommodating and welcoming. The rooms were comfortable and the view was lovely.i would highly recommend Breakfast was full of savory and sweet options the lunch at the beach restaurant was great as well as the wine and sunset it was a 4 min walk through the forest. Everyone from the reception wait staff room service went above and beyond expectations. We booked this hotel from other reviews that remarked on the great staff. So glad we did
We had a lovely week at the Villa Paestum. Everything was great from beginning to end. Newly renovated house, comfortable beds, and beautiful garden. They served amazing breakfasts. The owners Lorenzo and Ines are so friendly and were very helpful. They gave us good tips on the region, and restaurants. It is a short walk to the beach and in a quiet area of Paestum which we loved. But there’s everything you need close by including the yummy food at the Pizzeria next door. We were sad to leave.
We truly enjoyed our stay in this Agriturismo near Paestum archaeological site. The restaurant provided wonderful foods related to buffalos and it has been very busy with local diners and first communion parties—great and genuine local ambiance, not that of Amalfi coast. The pool is huge, clean, and nice. The staff is very helpful. Special thanks to Marco for his sincere help in fluent English, as well as to Catharina for her kindness to help us catch the early train.
We have a wonderful weekend at Hotel Cerere. It is delightful and a great design hotel with many beautiful pieces of art work. It was so pleasant and relaxing. It has a gorgeous grandiose pool integrated into the architecture and landscape. The breakfasts were abundant and very flavorful with lots of variety. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The beach is also very nice with friendly staff to entertain.
This wonderful hotel is in the midst of a family estate with olive and pomegranate trees- quiet and peaceful but just a short walk away from the Greek Temples and a vibrant street of restaurants. The lovely rooms look out on a courtyard and cars are parked in the old horse stables. there was a lavish and delicious homemade breakfast- our best of the trip. The owners were so welcoming! It is perfect!
Excellent location, a short walk from the train station, and an easy 10-15min walk to the Paestum archeological site. Nice clean room with ensuite, nice common room area with tea/coffee making facilities, good WiFi, etc. The host went to extra effort to provide a superior breakfast experience (excellent home-made cake & other food/drink items to match our dietary needs).
Nice, but very small room. Thought we'd booked the larger room, but we were looking at the wrong photos, so we were disappointed. Even when you think you're being careful, it is something to be aware of when using booking.com. Great location above a wine bar and a street full of very good restaurants. Paestum is wonderful.
Everything. This was a wonderful experience! Wonderful hotel. The grounds were amazingly zen. The staff was very friendly and the food was amazing. The dinner there was fantastic. Wish we would have stayed longer and taken advantage of the bicycles.
the property is an amazing rustic casale in the country near Paestum. it is a structure dating back to the XIX century with some new additions. a lot of gardens greens plants and lots of flowers. a little heaven not far from the beach.
The swimming pool near the dependence area is great. Also the night entertainment for the kids was really nice and the staff was giving 100% for entertaining the kids. The hotel has everything that you need for resting.
Gorgeous property with beautiful outdoor and indoor space. It is a smaller hotel and immaculately cared for. The hotel staff were kind and helpful. The breakfast was excellent as well. Would love to stay here again.
The facilities are amazing, the staff incredibly friendly, and the location a wonderful oasis. This is my favorite hotel in Italy. I have stayed many times and will stay many more.
Beautiful estate with wonderful dining area and a huge pool.
Free parking.
Dinner incl. wine included, no need to venture to any nearby village.
Kind and helpful staff.
The staff was very kind and every morning prepared a delicious breakfast. The room and the bathroom were so clean. Suggestive enviroment, near the Templi.
