Quiet, Peaceful quiet easy access to restaruants and shops
I loved the calm relaxing vibe. It felt like a quaint sea side village from the past. Everything was very clean and the walking on the beach frontage or the walk to the casino were very pleasant for us seniors. I also saw young families with small children which appeared to be ideal for that phase of family life because the beach is so close. I hadn't been to Avalon for over 20 years and was extremely happy with the way it has evolved and the pleasant atmosphere. Enjoyed it very much, but if I come back with my young adult grand daughters, they would probably want to do more of the activities which are available.

Our observation of Avilon is that is evolving.
Our observation of Avilon is that is evolving. There are more small cars. The businesses seem to be sustainable and pretty much thriving, and all is a positive experience.
Catalina is a mere 27-30 miles from where we live in So CA, but it could be HI, South of France or Southern Italy.
I think, just go there with the intent of slowing down and enjoying slower time and removing yourself from the balance of hectic life elsewhere. It is a good place to relax.

We visited at start of January (still school holidays) and found reduced restaurant and shop options. Restaurants tended to close early.
Easy 1hour comfortable ferry crossing to island with Catalina Express from Long Beach. Saw dolphins en route.
Just few minutes walk to main town, shops, restaurants and many hotels from ferry terminal.
Plenty of walks, but hilly. Fabulous views & plants/wildlife. Mostly golf carts or bikes and limited cars/local mini bus to get around.
Easy access to public restrooms around Avalon.
Would visit spring onwards for future visit.

Avalon can be magical to visit for a couple of days. Lots of activities, food options, and shopping. It's charming and beautiful. The M restaurant is one of my favorites, with good breakfast and lunch options. At dinner, it's a good Italian restaurant.

I loved being just a few yards from the water, restaurants and shopping. The whole area - in spite of the cloudy weather - is simply beautiful and picturesque. We enjoyed both walking and biking through the hills nearby. Avalon is my new "go to" spot for relaxing!!
Convenient location to everything on the main strip. Free coffee, teas, oatmeal, snack bars and a pancake making machine in the lobby each morning. Free use of a microwave for guests and my room had a small refrigerator. Basic accommodations, nothing fancy here but for the price it's a great choice. Historic old building and you can see the blue Hotel Catalina sign when you pull into dock. Short walk through tourist area to hotel. Nice communal balconies to lounge about during the day or morning time with your coffee.
This gorgeous hotel was perfect for me. They paid attention to all the details. The room was small but absolutely beautifully designed and SO CLEAN. It was so clean and updated that you would think you were the first to stay there. The bedding was phenomenal after a long day of excursions and snorkeling. I absolutely loved that they will keep your bags even after you check out- that allowed us to enjoy a full day longer on the island. Location couldn’t be better.
Amber is the best! I have never been treated so well in a hotel. Thank you very much for her kindness and for her good service. I plan to return to this hotel very soon. excellent service, comfortable, clean place with excellent service, cozy place, close to everything. if you are planning to go to the island you definitely need to stay in this place. Amber if you read this thank you very much! you made our experience a pleasure.
There is only pet friendly hotel in a rush booking in that price! No elevator but staff are friendly! Bed are okay for two people, if is a high weight mind need a larger size bed. Small kitchen is nice things need are quite full prepared ! Electric fire cook pad is only available not work, we could only use microwave to boiling water, frozen is nice and cool! Location is nice, couple walks to the sea or Vons! Overall 5five star!
The Edgewater is a great boutique hotel in the heart of Catalina. We stayed in room 7 at the very back and there is a cute little patio open to all guests but only we went out there during our stay. We were celebrating a birthday and they arranged for splits in the room to celebrate. So nice! The room is clean and simple. The bed was comfortable. Highly recommend!
the location of the hotel was perfect. Right on the main street in the heart of the action. Room was a perfect size for the family and the fireplace was a nice touch. The mall around the hotel does get a bit noisy in the AM around the coffee shop if you are around that side. If you want to sleep in, you might want a room further away from there.
The Manager Michael & his staff are absolutely amazing, We have been staying on Catalina island
Since the mid 1980s & this was our first time at the Seacrest Inn and this was the very best !!! By far then any other hotel we have come across in our many stays on the island ,This Hotel & Staff are a 10 out of 10 in every way ! Thank You
our stay at Aurora Hotel was excellent. The hospitality was great, staff was very friendly.
Rooms were clean and the roof top deck is a great add on.
They also helped us check in early. And next day they hold off the baggage for us and check out.
And they ordered some deserts also as we were celebrating our Anniversary
Super friendly staff! I told them it was my bday and I received a present!! So kind of them.
The room itself didn’t have a view but it was modern, clean and comfortable and directly across from the beach!! So best views as soon as you stepped out of the hotel!
The location had one of the most beautiful views of Catalina I've seen. The condo accommodates two couples and a baby pretty easily. The included golf cart was a great feature, especially because the location is a good distance from Avalon. We'd return.
When we book this hotel, it said it has it's own restaurant and bar, when we arrive, the staff said it was both closed. And the swimming pool was not heat up for the guest use, no body using the pool, and they covered the whirlpool as a sitting area.
The staff tries really hard to make your stay great. The hotel is clean. View from the roof and our room was lovely. Nice to have the pool- unique to the island. The island Bell Tower is so close, the daily rounds of chimes are beautiful.
Really enjoyed my stay at the relaxing boutique hotel by the sea. Large, quiet rooms with very tasteful furniture, room decor and high end bath products. Already planning my next stay during summer.
The hotel is very nice, however my cousin had some disability on her knees and the hotel and including the island does not have much accommodation for disabled visitors.
