Traveling by train to Kars might not have been the best option although an experience. Attractions like Ani are a distance away, use the little bus, taxi's will rip you off. The bus driver however will not sell you a 1 way ticket. At the current price 30 TRY each way, is well worth it. You will however only have 2 hours to explore, but that is sufficient.
The food choices are exactly the same as the rest of Turkey, Doner, Iskendar, etc.
Very important point, you can get a bus in the city and do not have to go to the Otogar outside of town.

Kars is a gem in the East that many should visit.
Kars is a gem in the East that many should visit. It has access to other countries like Armenia, Georgia.
Living standard here is much lower than Istanbul.
I will spend more time here if given another chance to visit Turkey
I had my hammam here for only 110 TL, which also included massage. You can never find this in Istanbul

Kars is a fascinating town with an interesting history and beautiful location. In places it is very dirty and dilapidated, with buildings crumbling and empty spaces where they have collapsed or been demolished. However, there seems to be a good deal of restoration work going on and the area around the castle and the main historical buildings has been developed and is clean and pleasant.
It is worth making a visit to the ruins of Ani, the ancient Armenian capital, right on the border with present-day Armenia. Very beautiful and atmospheric. A local bus goes there once a day, leaving from very close to the hotel.

Underrated city in the edge of Anatolia.
Underrated city in the edge of Anatolia. The place offers great unique cuisine and delicious local products. Also, great opportunities for visiting important historical and natural sites. Recommended to do the trip to Kars by the Dogu Express train from Ankara, which is a great experience in itself.

weather was good.
weather was good. Its a nice town to walk round, with some historic buildings such as the castle and some good value cafes and restaurants. The best thing about Kars isthe journey to it, but its not a town with tumble weed blowing through it. It doesn't have anything spectacuar in it, but you do have the sense that you are at the end of Turkey, which you are

I came to Kars to see the ancient city remains of Ani.
I came to Kars to see the ancient city remains of Ani. Worth all the effort to get here. Kars also has some interesting sights, a fortress, russian buildings from the 1800s, mosques, old hamans, good restaurants. Found 1 bar and a great barber for haircutting
the Hotel Katerina Sarayi was beyond delightful! everything was magical-from
the views, the atmosphere, to the delicious breakfast and the incredible service provided by the staff. Truly felt cared for and felt like all issues that arisen were solved-from providing a rental car and helping us find good transportation options to help us along our journey. 100% looking forward to going back!
The Konak hotel is ideally located in the city center, close to all the shops and restaurants and also (importantly) close to the bus station that goes to Ani (the region's must-see site). In addition to these practicalities, the hotel staff and especially the owner made our stay very pleasant. Very friendly, they also helped us a lot in our travels.
The staff, especially Ozlem and Ibrahim were so welcoming and friendly despite me arriving at a late hour. They spoke perfect English and Kurdish and I enjoyed chatting with them about life in Kars!
The hotel was clean despite being in an old building and is centrally located near the bus station and main Street in Kars.
The hotel is new and very easy to reach it is 1 km to main road to Kars and in the city center of Arpacay town. Room and outside is very clean and staff is very helpful.
It was a cold and snowy day so we cooked our meal in the kithcen which has enough tools to cook and eat.
Room was very warm even outside is below 0 C.
The hotel is set in a historical Russian building which looks amazing. The room is also quite spacious and clean. Its location is great since it is very close to the citadel of Kars. The breakfast was nice as well and their cheese selection is simply amazing as Kars is famous for its cheese products.
It was a lovely hotel and the staff were most accommodating. We had some trouble with the Wi-Fi and the staff were so helpful until we had our computers going. The breakfast was really nice. They were also helpful in finding us a wonderful guide and recommendations for dinner.
Walking distance from Kars Castle and from Ani bus pick up spot. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, buffet style with various cheeses, olives, veggies, breads, eggs, jams, etc. Coffee and Tea always available. Good place, thank you!
The staff were exceptionally nice. The hotel is new and my room was well appointment and had a wonderful view. Walking distance to the castle and right next to the promenade along the stream. Attached restaurant serves great food.
This is a scam. The hotel does not exist and the host will not reply to messages and the phone number does not work. I have messaged booking.com multiple times but they are unwilling to help me with a refund.
STAY AWAY!
The staff were brilliant. Especially, Ahmed, was amazing and helped us with recommendations in the city, as well as arranging a taxi to the border. I am looking forward to my next visit to the hotel.
Nice breakfast at another very nearby breakfast restaurant at 50 meters called Kahve Evi. The hotel employees are very nice and helpfull. Location is is at the city centre.
Great clean hotel in the center of Kars, historical district is nearby so it would take you a 5 min by foot. Rooms are big enough and breakfast is beyond my expectations.
