The ancient city of Yar and the underground aquaduct are sites not to miss. Try to get a guide who speaks your language because there is a lot to know. There aren’t many English speaking ones still around because of the political situation, but maybe you can find Habibi, our guide who was great.

The museum and the town around the artificial lake.

The museum and the town around the artificial lake. The traditional restaurant overlooking lake was great and well worth a visit. The far flung sites are grand in size but not a lot to see the Karez system interesting and Bezeklik cave complex in a fantastic site but small no of caves open during our visit.

Turfan is a smallish town with a definite chilled vibe. A pleasant place to end up a visit to Xinjiang which can be a bit tough. Pleasant to walk around, plenty of good restaurant choice and a couple of very interesting sights. Worth a couple of days visit definitely
