We enjoyed exploring the natural waterfalls and travelling along the Karangahake Gorge seeing a bit of our local history from mining tunnels to the remains of iron ore factories. Some waterfalls are on your doorstep others require a bit bit of a hike but well worth the effort

Owharoa Falls - swim here!
Owharoa Falls - swim here!
Waikino Station Cafe - nice bacon and egg flan - yum. Came back for another the next day! Lots on offer here t eat and drink - worth a look, even if you don't take the train - you can snack while at a table on the platform! They said they hire bikes out - but we didn't get the chance - it would be something I would like to do.
Karanghake Gorge - very worth the longer walk. Do it if you can.
