Russell is heavenly.
Russell is heavenly. It is so beautiful and we had the best time.
What a gem this part of the world has access to! The oysters were amazing. The food/experience and service at the Duke of Marlborough was first rate. The sunsets were surreal. The visit to Urupakapuka by ferry led to an amazing day of exercise and adventure, we had a heavenly swim in one of the islands isolated beaches by ourselves.
What a day!🥰

If you are around Bay of islands I suggest to not stay at Paihai and go to Russell. Smaller, quieter and much nicer. There is a ferry across to Paihai if you want to go there.
Long Beach is not to be missed and we enjoyed the Flagstaff walk too.

Nice & quiet in the middle of winter.Gets very busy at summertime so booking ahead is essential. Always good food at The Duke restaurant & great front rooms with a balcony with sea views & a view of the street, great for a couple of drinks before heading to the bar!

Russell was so cool.
Russell was so cool. Easy to get around and so lovely in Winter as very few people. The history is interesting and the people were mostly friendly.
Next time we will stay 3 nights as we really relaxed and book a trip to Sage restaurant for a special treat.

It is a beautiful location and peaceful.
It is a beautiful location and peaceful. There are enough cafe's / restaurants for 4 or 5 days but plenty more in nearby resorts. The one thing you need to realise about NZ is that "eateries" general cafe's and take aways open early 6 or 7 am but close early too, 3 or 4pm. In general the stop serving an hour before. A lot of restaurants open 12 to 3pm and 5 to 8pm. If you want to eat late you need to check on line for places. Very few apart from Asian places take orders after 9pm.
Good supermarket. Lovely sea and beaches around. Public loos are quite prolific in NZ including beaches with changing rooms. The whole country top to bottom is wort a visit. Low traffic levels apart from cities. Lot of mountain roads.
Great location right on Russell waterfront. There are picnic tables reserved for Lodge residents just above the beach with a fabulous view. We enjoyed eating a picnic dinner out there one evening. Simply fabulous.
While there is a pool we didn't use it as the Lodge is only a few steps away from the beach and preferred to swim in the sea. We did warm up in the spa pool after one swim which was very nice.
Well appointed kitchen to do breakfast, lunch and simple dinners.
The hostess was very helpful with all our requests.
Can't beat the location - we were in the self-contained apartment (the Bungalow), next door to the hotel itself. Right on The Strand opposite the wharf and obviously the whole of Russell and its places of interest are within walking distance. Paihia and Waitangi are a short boat ride away. The apartment is roomy and warm, so it was a great place to spend a few days in winter. It was great to have the parking option nearby and also access to the gym.
An absolutely beautiful historic building with stunning views over the bay. We had an amazing 2 bed suite with small lounge and terrace, the place was spotless. Greg and Peter were perfect hosts, so happy to help with any question and was so lovely to hear the history of the house and area. Tea, coffee, homemade biscuits available and honesty bar. Peter makes amazing breakfasts! Russell town is so pretty too, particularly out of high season.
Annie was such a warm, friendly and helpful host. She welcomed us with a beverage, crackers and a delicious homemade relish. She went out of her way to help us figure out our plan for visiting the Bay of Islands. The apartment was very comfortable and clean with a well furnished kitchenette. The yard and gardens were beautiful. We highly recommend staying at Aimeo Cottage.
Great location, quiet, comfortable and charmingly historic, plus incredible views over the water. The breakfasts were a fortifying and delectable gift each morning and served on the veranda with amazing views. Very accessible to the wonderful amenities of Russell and the owners provided useful local suggestions which were always spot on. One of the highlights of our trip.
The location was perfect for us. It was quiet and peaceful. The room and everything else was fantastic.. The manager was very friendly and welcoming. He recommended some places we can visit, have lunch etc. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves, and we will book again with Motel Russell. Thank you James for your hospitality, and kindness.
Carol and Nigel's place was immaculate. It was beautifully appointed, spacious and cozy.
The breakfast was brilliant with everything you could possibly wish for.
It is about a 5 minute drive to the town of Russell. So we had to drive to the shops and restaurants. It meant we were in a very quiet and relaxing area though.
We booked two rooms in this lovely quiet area. The studios are very spacious, clean and comfortable and contain a kitchenette. Both rooms had a private balcony and beautiful views over Russell and the bay. The lodge is just a short walk to the waterfront and restaurants.
Owner Catherine was very pleasant and helpful.
This property was immaculately clean and the staff were super kind and helpful. You can tell they take a lot of pride in this place. I felt very comfortable here and had a good chance to rest and catch my breath with such peaceful surroundings. If ever in Russell again, will definitely be back. Cheers.
Gorgeous wee place in a terrific location. Short walk into Russell, restaurants and to the Paihia Ferry. Lovely outside area in which to relax and admire the view. Everything you could want was in the cottage. The Hosts were just lovely. Best place yet!
Amazing view from the location, you have a view over Russell and all the inner bay area across to Paihia. Great linen and very comfy beds. Place was very warm. Very convenient to town and as a base to explore around Russell.
John was a friendly and helpful host. The view over Russell was magic, and we enjoyed swimming at the nearby beaches. Hangi and concert at the Treaty grounds were excellent, as was a day sailing the islands..
The pool location was good, location of the motel was excellent, close to all the amenities. Very nice hosts, there were very helpful. The room was very clean and well spacious for our requirements.
Absolutely loved staying a Villa Russell. Beautiful views and perfect location. Clean, comfortable and inviting. I loved the dressing gowns.
The yummy breakfast was a great end to our stay.
We only stopped in for a night, but our room was nice and warm when we arrived. Facilities seemed well looked. Will definitely be back next time we are in Russell!
