Quiet little town between Queenstown and Milford Sound.

Quiet little town between Queenstown and Milford Sound. Room rates are very reasonable; and the attached resturant was very good. The lamb shank was excellent! Fun place to hang with the friendly locals. It is a good 3 hour drive to Milford Sound from here (not the 2:15 the GPS will say) so you need to leave extra time if you have a boat tour scheduled. Mossburn is a good place to gas up your car before leaving for Milford Sound or Queenstown. Our room had a large attached bathroom, and the shower had great water pressure. Secure parking located behind the building gave easy access to the rooms. Don't be afraid to go to Milford Sound if it's raining; the waterfalls are even more spectacular!

We only stayed two nights and the trip to Lake Mavora and Walter Peak during the day. It was a convenient place to stay. The Hotel over the road had dinner meals but the Cafe in Main Street was open at 7:30am to serve breakfast if you wanted it. We NZers mostly take our food with us especially breakfast but nothing there to put it in! Mossburn has a lovely shop for gifts and some food, The Cafe next door is open till 4:30pm. There is an NPD Gas station and a camping ground. It's really an overnight stop. It is a small country town.
