I have stayed in Mapua many times while holidaying in the region. Its a perfect spot if you don't want to be in the more metropolitan Nelson/Richmond areas but still have all the facilities at hand that you want on a holiday - restaurants, cafes, shops, pub, supermarket, petrol etc etc while still only being half an hour away from Nelson etc

We've been to Mapua before.
We've been to Mapua before. It's off the beaten track to an extent but still has all the facilities you might want. It gets quite busy with tourists, both domestic and overseas, in summer. However, by the end of April this year it was just right with no problems getting a table at any of the restaurants yet they weren't dead either. Cyclists/walkers be aware that the Mapua Ferry winter timetable (weekends and school hols only) cuts in on the first week in May. We intended cycling in to Richmond but were scuppered by the lack of a ferry crossing.

Lovely relaxed area.
Lovely relaxed area. Good shopping and a variety of restaurants available.
The Apple Shed resturant was great
Only downside was that the restaurants closed early Monday night but we found a great pub that was quiet and food was very nice.
This place is a little slice of heaven. Chrissie and John were the best hosts. The view from the room was beautiful. Fresh fruit was growing outside in the garden. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast was yummy. Very close to wharf and restaurants. We will definitely come back again to explore the wineries.
So cool that the host was from Gravesend, Kent. Small world!
Thank you! Richard & Michelle
Wonderful unit, clean, comfortable with a nice outdoor seating area to relax and enjoy the gardens. The host Nicky is great, and provided a picnic basket full of breakfast items outside our door/patio in the morning. Highly recommend. While you are in Mapua, a short ride to the small scenic harbor will lead you to some good restaurants. We ate at the Apple Shed, it was also very good. Good NZ wine list.
We were made really welcome and Sally went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and a range of of lovely dishes. If you get the chance, taste her home made shortbread. The best I have ever eaten. Thank you both for your hospitality and rest assured if and when we visit Mapua next, we would be happy to stay with you again. Joan and John.
First class accommodation. Very well presented and some thoughtful extras like TWO suitcase stands. I was by myself but I am used to travelling with my wife and we have a suitcase each, so two stands is brilliant. There were very nice fixings for breakfast and it was only 5 minutes walk to the wharf.
The wee cottage is modern and well equipped, very tastefully presented and only a couple of minutes walk from the Mapua Wharf Cafes and shops. Our hosts were available if we were to need anything but we had our own private space, even a lovely wee garden courtyard.
Lovely hosts, breakfast cooked to order with fresh fruit and locally made spreads/jams. Nice to chat with other guests and share tips regarding the area. Spa is a treat after a day out exploring the Tasman. Mapua was vibrant with lots of choice of eateries.
Location is terrific and within easy walking distance to the wharf, coffee shops, restaurants and a supermarket. Owners were friendly and easy to communicate with. Apartment was lovely and lots of info handily supplied via a nice notebook.
Kathy’s Mapua Studio is stylish and comfortable. She has thought of everything to make your stay peaceful and relaxed. We loved the wood-fire plus ample supply of wood and the lovely linens on the super comfy bed.
Location was excellent being so close to the wharf. Unit was comfortable with new bathroom. Porch outside was a lovely place to eat or enjoy the outdoors. Very comfortable bed. Friendly hosts. Wifi appreciated.
The upstairs apartment we were in has beautiful position overlooking the water. Its glorious to be here in Mapua.
The short walk to the shops and restaurants. Literally right next door. Quiet and private.
Great host's, lovely room with a stunning view.
Loved Mapua, cycling to Rabbit Island, thanks to Chrissies advice we visited the Abel Tasman National Parks stunning beaches.
Awesome hosts. Spacious and clean apartment. Lovely stay with beautiful views. Short drive to Mapua wharf's lovely shops and restaurants. Will go back there.
