Mangonui is a pleasant small place with a beautiful waterfront. Considering its size it has a good range of eating places as well as a supermarket. The heritage trail is interesting and also a good walk, although there are some steep sections once you leave the waterside. There are good views all around. At low tide there is an interesting range of bird life on the exposed mud. There is obviously good fishing. This a good place to tke a trip up to Cape Reinga and the nearby KariKari peninsula has a winery and good beaches.

Original town buildings in a unspoilt, beautiful, harbour setting with excellent boardwalk along the foreshore. Good information provided on the old buildings about their previous uses. Reasonable range of places to eat.

Loved our stay in Mangonui.
Loved our stay in Mangonui. Very central apartment lovely and relaxing atmosphere, very quiet at night. Only minuses were our room was very hot at night and the bed was mediocre but ok for a couple of nights. We ate at Jess’cafe right below the apartment and the food was STUNNING!!! The board walk is fabulous and everything was super accessible by foot.

Mangonui is a cute little town with a wonderful waterfront boardwalk. When we discovered that we could join a bus tour from Paihia to Cape Reinga we knew our decision to stay at The Old Oak Boutique Hotel was perfect on every level.
Beautiful apartments overlooking beautiful Coopers Bay, direct access onto beach & nearby walking tracks & Mangonui & a hot tub too. Apartment was excellent, very clean & with absolutely everything we needed, including a washing machine & drier! The owner & staff were exceptional, courteous & so friendly, going out of their way to accommodate us when we wanted to stay longer because we were so content being there. A perfect host & perfect stay. Thank you so much, you ‘made’ our trip wonderful 🙂
Beautiful views overlooking Mangonui. The beds were very comfy and the unit had everything we needed for our get away. Chester was very friendly and accommodating to our family. Loved the free parking and great location which meant we could leave our car at the hotel, have a wine and walk 5 mins to the restaurant for dinner. Sky TV was a bonus to watch rugby later. Highly recommend and will be back but for a longer stay next time.
Good points - View, exceptional! Mangonui Harbour right out the window, doors open up onto balcony, best way to wake up in the morning!
Great location! Right by the water, cafe, fish n chips and 4 square all on your doorstep plus a few shops.
Towels/linen was lovely and soft, bed very comfy. TV was handy due to the bad weather outside. Lovely hot shower.
The warm welcome from the Owners Jennifer and Justin - the history of the hotel and the original features - the layout of our little suite of rooms and the balcony overlooking the water, ideal for an early evening drink - the location of the hotel in relation to Mangonui Village - and the picnic our hosts prepared for us for our day exploring Cape Reinga.
Fiona gave us a very warm welcome and we spent a wonderful time exchanging stories with a good glass of wine. The B&B is beautiful, very comfortable and Fiona prepares a wonderful breakfast which we had with an amazing view from the terrace. This is an outstanding B&B and we hope to return soon with more time to explore Mangonui and surroundings.
The motel was in a perfect position on the waterfront at Mangonui and a very short walk to cafes, bars and shops. The view from the rooms was magnificent...unfortunately, it seems that the motel will be closing and reverting to shops. This would be a disappointment but as it has only a couple of rooms - it may be inevitable.
Beautiful, peaceful location with perfect accessability to the harbour and shops of Mangonui. The Old Oak Boutique Hotel was charming and a delightful place to stay. Very picturesque outlook, I definitely recommend this as a place to stop and stay up North.
The views are exceptional for such a reasonably priced motel. The motel itself is what it is: a motel built in the sixties and not updated since but it has a good feel, is spotlessly clean and the linen is crisp. I plan on becoming a regular.
Very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed. We all loved the pool which was heated. Very handy to Mangonui centre and we walked up to the nearby pa site. Extremely helpful and friendly people who ran the motel.
Lovely room with a beautiful view which was in walking distance of restaurants, pub and grocery shop. Coopers beach is a 5 minute drive away and we went for 2 walks along the beach while we were there for the weekend.
Good location, close to shops and restaurants in Mangonui. Fish & chips through the onsite restaurant were very nice. A good outdoor bar, with views across the bay for those sunny days.
The history of this hotel is impressive. Gardens are immaculate. The room was luxury in every respect. Our time here was special. The hosts are wonderful. We will come again.
Michelle was very nice. I was surprised how expensive it was considering we're trying to promote locals travelling within NZ. Why do I pay more if I book directly with the hotel?
Wonderful location overlooking Mangonui. Super clean and well appointed accommodation. The views were spectacular from the apartment and town was just a short walk away.
A comfortable and spacious motel unit with a glorious view. Kitchen was well equipped, good WiFi, comfortable beds. The motel is being renovated. Owner was very helpful.
