The 'city' has been maintained in 'original' condition.
The 'city' has been maintained in 'original' condition. The many artisinal shops well illustrate the range of skills within the village as do the boulangeries and restaurants providing a satisfying range of fare including the traditional galettes. Tours are available with guides if necessary. The village is small and can be adequately covered in half a day. It is very well worth visiting! There are a number of other historical sights within relatively close driving distance of the village which could make it a good base to explore the surrounding area as well.

I enjoyed my visit to Perouges very much.
I enjoyed my visit to Perouges very much. It is a beautiful town, completely medieval. There were already tourists in January. I think there will be many more in the spring and summer. I would recommend anyone wantng to stay in the old town to make reservations well ahead, months ahead for the high season.

This was a stunning old medieval village, small enough to walk around and explore thoroughly in less than a day. Staying there was like stepping back in time. And we had the streets to ourselves in the morning and evening.

A fabulous ancient walled town with lots of tiny shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars, and it's all on your doorstep if you are staying at this hotel.
Once you're checked-in and you've parked your car in the hotel's private car park, everything is walking distance - the streets are all cobbled so a pair of comfortable shoes is advisable.
We ate in the hotel restaurant which was superb - the atmosphere is fantastic and everything is totally unspoilt.
This really is a totally unique hotel and staying there is an experience in itself, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
I suppose the only word of warning I would make is that the town and this hotel may not be the best for anyone with mobility issues - cobbled streets and tightly winding spiral staircases may cause difficulties. Having said that, the staff are all extremely helpful and it would be worth asking them what facilities are available.

A wonderful medieval village to discover for a day visit.
A wonderful medieval village to discover for a day visit. Well worth the journey from Annecy. Sturdy shoes a must to cope with the cobblestones (Not suitable for wheelchairs or prams). The museum worth the entrance fee just for the view from the tower! Lots of craft shops for paper pottery etc
WOW! Not to be missed. The walled city of Perouges may be one of the most romantic towns in all of France. Certainly within a short drive of Lyons. The Hostellerie is located within the walls so one can wander about in the town during the evening when whatever crowds were there in the morning are all gone. The staff are welcoming. The restaurant is truly memorable! Parking is convenient and included in the cost of the room. We must go back soon!
Set in a quiet courtyard, literally round the corner from the interesting medieval village of Perouges. As the village gets busy with visitors it’s perfect to be able to retreat until the majority have left. The room itself was simply furnished but comfortable, stylish and clean. Friendly owner, though we communicated mainly with smiles and gestures!
The room is located just outside the old center of Perouges, opposite the tourist office, adjacent the courtyard of a purposefully redesigned old building. As it is located well off the road, it is calm and well fit for purpose for a short stay in view of visiting the very pretty town of Perouges. The quality of the bed was really good.
Our stay was absolutely fabulous! The location of the hotel is the best in the old Perouges in my opinion. The welcome by the hotel, the service at breakfast- it was all very warm and welcoming, especially from the lady who showed us the parking and the room. A must place to visit!!
This is an elegant hotel in multiple medieval buildings. It is enchanting. The town is gorgeous. It is well off the beaten path.
The dining experience reminded me of traveling with my parents as a teenager. Perfect.
Surprisingly nice hotel, convenient, free, secure parking; excellent restaurant next door, great breakfast, 5 minute drive from walled medieval town Perouges on top of hill. Friendly, English speaking receptionist.
Unfortunately the hotel's restaurant which looked amazing is closed on 2 nights a week and we happened to be there on one but the receptionist gave us the names of a few alternatives which was greatly appreciated.
Wonderful four night stay in a 15th century chateau in the heart of medieval village of Perouges. Very comfortable room with great view; friendly and helpful staff; excellent restaurant.
Very beautiful view. The terrace was breathtaking. The hotel rooms and buildings, and the village are very beautiful and well protected. Stuff is helpful and friendly.
Conveniently located and comfortable hotel which met expectations for its class. Although we did not have the time to use the the swimming pool it did look very nice.
Very friendly staff, great breakfast. Very quiet. Able to open window. Very clean.Easy walk to Perouges medieval city. Close walkable to grocery store.
