The bullet train ride from Tokyo to Niigata had lots of beautiful scenery along the way. So glad we decided to visit here on our third trip to Japan. I spent 2 nights in Niigata because the hotel I wanted was booked out. I recommend spending there at least three nights. I visited Yahiko, a city nearby, which has a gorgeous park with Momiji trees, it was beautiful at the end of October. However, I had only a small amount of time for Niigata itself.

The only thing going for Niigata is the Alchemist Bar & Dining restaurant (Australian chef/owner). We were really disappointed and had been to 5 other cities in Japan which were fantastic. I stay at downtown, near the train station. So it is pretty much a lot of things to do. Excellent restaurants all around the area.
