Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa, hotel in Parkgate

Located within 27 acres of gardens and woodland, the Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa has free parking and a spa.

Check in was quick and easy. Room was warm. Clean. Lovely en suite and Elemis toiletries Tea coffee and a kettle in the room along with a water jug and glasses (filtered water tap outside the room nearby) Lovely view of the lawns and garden at the rear of the property A nice touch was robes and slippers were provided along with the fluffy white towels! Breakfast was superb! There was plenty of choice of cereals jams toast cheese ham fruit and pastry’s to help yourself to whilst the full English options (bacon, sausage rolls and all hot items) were taken at your table (along with tea/coffee orders )and cooked freshly. Dinner was available in the evenings. We had rack of lamb (£34) and catch of the day which was trout (£18) and a bottle of wine (£27) it was all very nicely cooked. There were other options like fish and chips (20) and a curry I think. There was a nice bar/bar area and access to outside for smokers The hotel is a spa hotel and guests are allowed to use the lovely pool sauna and steam room for free with options to book a treatment or upgrade to use the thermal suite for £20 I think. We just used the pool and sauna. I’d seen several spa hotel when I was booking and you had one hour per day you were staying or you had to pay £20 each upwards for using the spa so this was lovely it was included. Lovely staff The hotel states it has a gym but we dis not use this. A lovely stay and would go back.

The property was well maintained, rooms were spacious - we had a four-poster bed. Bathroom very nice, good shower. Parkgate is a seaside venue without the sea (due to silting) but maintains the seaside atmosphere. Clearly popular with locals. Two ice cream shops, pubs and the inn. Lovely place to walk along the foreshore and watch the birds.

We have family on the Wirral and wanted somewhere to stay so we could spend some quality time with them. Parkgate was just perfect. It is such an interesting place, full of history, but so convenient to reach other parts of Cheshire, Wirral, Merseyside and Flintshire. It is a very busy little town by day, but also quite relaxing to watch the birds over the river Dee marches. Great for Fish and Chips, Ice Cream, good restaurants and interesting walks.

Parkgate, and the Wirral in general is a hidden gem, clearly known to the locals but not on the typical tourists trail. It should be. Lots to see including the amazing Sunlight Village, walking tracks and beautiful scenery. Only a short drive from Chester, Llangollen, Liverpool with its docks and lively Manchester. Fly into Manchester airport, instead of crowded Heathrow and it is all on your doorstep.

Parkgate is a nice quiet coastal village with lovely views over the Dee estuary and the Welsh coast. It has hardly changed for decades. Ideal base for visiting Chester, Merseyside & North Wales. Some good pubs & restaurants and a great ice cream shop next to the Ship Hotel. There's also a lot more good restaurants to try within 20 minutes drive - Pesto at The Yacht pub is unusual and excellent.

Great cottage, in a perfect location for visiting the Wirral while enjoying the seaside atmosphere of Parkgate. Checkin was super easy and the accommodation was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Bottle of Rose on arrival was much appreciated :) We brought our 10yr old Collie and she loved the big public fields just up the road and walking along the Wirral Way which is a great nature trail along an old disused railway line.

Beautiful home, spotlessly clean (understatement of the century!), decor is so clean, fresh and tastefully done and very in keeping with Parkgate. The layout for 5 worked really well. The bathroom is downstairs but didn’t have any impact for us at all. The log burner was amazing… such a treat!

The Ship is in a great location on the front in Parkgate. The bedroom was very comfortable and well appointed. Bathroom was new, and great, with lovely hot shower. Dinner (whitebait followed by Dover Sole) was superb. Service was attentive. Breakfast was excellent. Great place to stay.
