We arrived late and left early. Didn’t have time to look around the town. We chose Newtownards for its location from where we would be visiting local attractions the next day and the hotel as the best of a small choice.

Newtownards, while not obviously a beautiful town, has interesting and historic elements. Its position near Belfast, lovely Strangford Lough and magnificent National Trust property Mountstewart is a bonus. We enjoyed drinks and food in the Parlour (formerly known as the Old Cross). There were other interesting looking bars/restaurants which we unfortunately did not have time to explore.

She shared her knowledge of local places and history and also things that interested our family - like the hockey rink just a few miles away. The service was above and beyond what we expected for such a reasonable price - definitely a LOT of value! Breakfast was great and there was a very nice area to hangout in during the evenings. Clean, nice place to stay, so much better than a big chain hotel!
