Discover the hidden gems of Mawanella through the warm hospitality of Anushka and his lovely family at their enchanting homestay 🌿
This place is so wonderful I extended my stay and will definitely be back!
Everything was perfect, the food was delicious, the hospitality, the room, the pool to cool down on a hot day, great location making it easy to go to other parts and also lovely to just sit and relax surrounded by nature reading a book or writing.
Plus, Anushka really knows the island and is a great tour guide!

Gayashan is the most amazing host, friendly and humble, picked me up from the airport, we did a 2 day trip to the mountains, he drove me to a lot of nice places and was always helpful and courteous.
The accommodation is simple but has a special natural touch, lot of plants and beautifully designed rooms. Breakfast is plenty and yummy. Access to town is easy by rickshaw, you’ll find restaurants there as well. One feels very welcome here!

The staff were very obliging. We arrived at 1am, this was not a problem and they greeted us warmly. Next morning we watched elephants in river from our balcony. The events coordinator took us to a place where we could walk and swim with elephants. He stopped on side of road on way back to try coconut milk. Wonderful staff. We found the breakfast not quite to European tastes.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the complete hotel staff for their remarkable kindness and assistance, which undoubtedly enhanced our stay. We reserve special gratitude for Andrew, our tour guide, whose warm welcome and generous gesture of taking us on a village tour with his car left a lasting impression.
Most notably, witnessing the elephants relishing their river bath was an extraordinary experience. The soothing sound of the river from our room added a truly relaxing touch to our stay.

We stayed in the beautifull place Luck Uyana Cabana, with very nice spice garden. They offer guided tour in the garder for free with foot massage. You can enjoy long massage and pay for it.
They offer discount for elephant ride and bath with Millenium Elephant foundation which is just next door.
Unfortunately we got ride by Tuk Tuk from the bus station and he reocmend some other - cheeper, but not so clean place for elephant bath. We did not have time to go to Pinnawala itself.

Pinnawala is an elephant orphanage with some axillary tourist services around. Keep in mind that the elephants are the priority and you get the opportunity to be there with them in the comfort of a nice hotel. Plan to arrive after 4PM if you are staying in a hotel by the river as the elephants are moving between the river and the orphanage. They came down three times during the day I was there. Fantastic.

It would have been nice to have had time to sit and have lunch watching the elephants and relaxing. There is also a range of shops to explore and I think a chance to go visit the orphanage in addition to seeing the elephants being bathed.
try to get room 202 or at least 201. fantastic view!
food is average but still better than nothing :) cafes around couldn't offer anything better than the on-site restaurant
staff is friendly and quick enough to handle the issues.
since we came for elephants, we didn't spend much time in the rooms but were exploring surroundings. Elephant Orphanage is just a few meters away, and other elephant attractions can be reached by tuk-tuk in a few min.
room rate is fair and matches the quality of the property.
This is an interesting place in а Sri Lanka village, which works fine for nature lovers. We liked the cosy bungalow surrounded by nature. We enjoyed tasty Sri Lankan home food, especially dinners. The hotel owners are very friendly and take care of our needs. This place is good if you are going to visit Bo Ella Waterfall and Bible Rock (Bathalegala). We went hiking and enjoyed much. They have hot water and a well designed bathroom.
I liked it a lot. When I entered they put a welcome sign on me. It has a terrace, living room, large computer room, toilet, dining room. Kasum the host is exceptional, he picked me up and took me to the station, he took me to the Elephant Orphanage and other places. He is an unbeatable tour guide. In fact I work 10 years in airlines. Totally recommended. One 10 in everything. My experience with elephants is amazing.
the location is better than described and our expectations!!! ITS AMAZING!!! the elephants are in the river right outside our room /hotel /swimming pool most of the day!!!
The hotel had everything you could need! As with most places in Sri Lanka a little tired in places but the staff are fabulous and nothing is too much problem (especially Udantha on reception!) loved it there ! I have to say it was hard to leave!!!
Excellent place, spacious rooms, with a lot of vegetation. Anushka is very kind, as is his family. He is a very good guide, he knows a lot about his country and its tourist attractions.
If you have any questions, I recommend that you ask anything, he will help you.
It was an incredible day in their cottage and the typical Sri Lanka breakfast was amazing 🤩🤩
I will back , I’m sure 🫶🏻☺️
It was a great stay. They upgraded our room to their chalet which was so spacious and comfortable. We could use the other hotel near Peacock for restaurant and pool and it had the best view of elephants in the river. They offered free drive between hotels making it very very easy to use facilities. Mr Andrew was deeply kind and helpful and we're thankful for the service.
First of all, the room I was staying was really clean, beautiful and confortable. There is a balcony outside with fantastic view on palm trees. Also, the breakfasts included and extra dinners were delicious and tasty. A real thanks to Andrew and all his crew, everyone at the hotel was nice, gentle and reactive. I will surely come back if I return to Sri Lanka !
The hotel is located within the few metres from the Elephant orphanage and had great access to the government owned elephant bathing area near the river which gives easy access to watch the elephant bathing activity which the main attraction of this place. Overall good stay, decent food as we had both breakfast and dinner included in the package.
For the price point, this is the best place to stay if you're planning to visit Pinnawala. If you want to see the elephants walking through the town, get a balcony room or just sit by the eating area. You also have access to the river area where the elephants bathe, without having to pay for the orphanage fee.
great place to stay, staff friendly and facilities were good. breakfast was great and we had dinner there which was good too.
the rooms were really nice and the pool was lovely.
great location, right opposite the elephant orphanage.
good value for money.
there is no meaning of paying credit cards. i have gifted hotel room for my friend. but on the day at the property they have asked to pay. then why should booking.con using credit card to pay at the booking. this is really unfair. disgusting service ever.
Very nice bed and pillows, good price for this accommodation. Unfortunately, no any discount to see elephants. And if you come to this hotel by car or bike, the parking is free, don’t pay any guys over there.
Location was really nice, and the price is really good.
You get to use the pool at the hotel next to hotel pinnalanda.
A really good option for one night, to see the elephant bathing in the morning
The hotel is very grand and comfortable. The staff were excellent. They arranged a Sri Lankan food cooking class for us, even though they had a very large organised party going on at the same time.
The location was perfect to see the elephants. The elephants walked right by the hotel entrance. And the owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. We will definitely visit again!
Beautiful, clean place, spacious rooms, very nice hosts who help with everything, 2 minutes walk to the elephant orphanage / river bathing site, delicious breakfast.
Very kind staff. Couldn't be closer to the elephant orphanage (across the street), which meant I saw the daily walks to the river. Quiet and restful stay.
A perfect stopover between Colombo and Kandy and beyond. Full of old world charm and the tour of the hotel was great! Staff friendly and accommodating!
