The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint. However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good. As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work. Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments. Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.

The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.

    Just the right location.

Just the right location. Not too far from Colombo but has the nice secluded feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Close to a lot of places to visit - Kalutara temple, Bentota for water sports, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery. Overall, a great place to be in!!

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities.

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities. The problem is that there are no decent restaurants or coffees near by. You are opted to only eat at the hotel, unless you are adventurous. You are better off to go a bit more south or north and close to the capital to find reasonable restaurants and coffees etc. If you like to each and just stay within the resort then you will be OK as hotels in the area offer everything you need.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay. While it is not as crowded with tourists and activities when compared with her neighbouring districts Colombo and Galle, it is quite special in it's own simplicity. The sights generally known to see are few and are quite close too each other. A day to sightsee and enjoy the city, a day to enjoy the hotel and it's facilities and a day for the beach and surrounding neighbourhood is in my opinion the ideal way to plan a trip to Kalutara. The best place you must visit in my opinion is Jeoffrey Bava's garden. The place is great to walk around, take some beautiful photos and run around a little.

This is a small intimate guesthouse right on the edge of the ocean. You will feel like this is your home. The owner and manager went out of their way to assist in so many ways. We were in Kalutara on a film shoot and needed a driver and a translator -- the owner found great people for us! I also had an injury -- the manager, Lucky, and another guy carried me off the beach and arranged for an ambulance. They were there for us - above and beyond the norm -- and helped us in so many kind ways. I felt they really cared; like family.

We stayed here for 4 weeks, and it was the best time we had in Sri Lanka. The whole house is beautiful and the private pool is fantastic. The hosts Judy and Neil were so amazing, couldn't do enough for us. The whole apartment was excellent. It was very well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The area is nice and they can arrange transport and advise on places to visit. Thank you Judy and Neil, we came as guests and left as friends, thoroughly recommend staying here.

A beautiful property which is quite welcoming spacious and interesting planned. Interesting concept of a self service welcome drink. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious with a great view of the sea. The restaurant staff are quite friendly and helpful especially the lady restaurant manager who goes out of the way to make sure that the guest are comfortable. They offer a great breakfast buffet which is highly recommended and worth the price.

It was a perfect place to crash after a night flight. The staff is very friendly and helpful in organising tours. The location in front of the beach is perfect to enjoy some well deserved rest. We selected a half board option but that was not necessary since there are other dining options in the surroundings. Breakfast was highly enjoyable and the house dog is the most friendly I ever saw in a hotel.

Room and room amenities were superb. Loads of bottled water. Hot shower - always! Staff were friendly and welcoming (although service a bit haphazard sometimes). Most of the staff are new - this is the same across almost every hotel we stayed in. Post COVID recovery for all hospitality. The food was super. Catered internationally. Would I go back - absolutely.

The location and proximity to the beach can't be beaten. This hotel is only an hour from Colombo. The rooms are large and very clean and the staff bend over backwards to ensure you enjoy your stay, nothing is too much trouble. The food is fine and there is something for everyone, of course the local dishes are excellent!
