Schmalkalden is very pretty with a huge number of beautiful old houses, not overly restored. Outside of the centre it has good supermarkets with long opening hours and easy car access to scenic walks and tours in Thuringia. It is nonetheless a very quiet village and we found just 3 bar/restaurants open in the evening in June. Apart from the bakery (close to the house) most things don’t open till 10am. This might change in peak season.

We didn't know the city was that old and has been an important political center in the Middle Ages! Numerous beautiful old buildings and private houses give an impression of those historical times. Moreover, the local castle Wilhelmsburg overlooking the town has become a museum. We spent two hours there!AntoinetteNetherlands

The location was good for me because it is close to the university where I had work. Also the price is very good for me. And there is a good huge market very close.

The room now had a living area, bedroom and big bathroom. A lot of space for only two people!
