Queenstown is a fabulous place to visit.
Queenstown is a fabulous place to visit. There's a lot to see, some great walks, and the people are really friendly and helpful. It's an old mining town surrounded by spectacular mountains and you'll need more than a few days to fully appreciate what it has to offer. We were there for 4 days during the Unconformity Festival held biannually in October but wished we had longer. The weather was fabulous for the first 2 days and then it rained, which is quite common in this area but shouldn't put anyone off visiting. One of our favourite places to eat was JJ's where we had delicious homemade vegetable soup and absolutely delectable bread and butter pudding! The Gallery Museum was also a highlight with its wonderful mining history display. Even just walking around the streets is a treat. This quirky town should be on everyone's itinerary when visiting Tasmania - but don't forget your raincoat.

Queenstown has lost most of its population.
Queenstown has lost most of its population. There are many vacant storefronts on Main Street. We enjoyed our overnight stay but found no reason to stay longer. I hope they find a way to revitalize their town! Nice people and great food at our hotel.

I met the most friendly and helpful people in Queenstown.
I met the most friendly and helpful people in Queenstown. I was disappointed the train wasn't running, due to maintenance. Without the train, l spent my time visiting art places and the museum. I also looked at iron bluff and the waterfall. Throughly enjoyed lots of coffee at MoonScape.

Queenstown is a fabulous old mining town that is definitely worth a visit...or two. The last part of the drive into the town from the south is spectacular and definitely worth the 3.5-hour trip from Hobart. Surrounded by stunning hills and mountains, there is plenty to do in Queenstown such as catching the West Coast Railway through lush rainforest to Strahan, mountain bike riding, bushwalking, catching a movie or show at the iconic Paragon Theatre, or attending the annual Unconformity each October. If you really want to soak up the atmosphere, stay a night or two in the gorgeous old Empire Hotel, marvel at its beautiful Tasmanian Blackwood staircase, and well-preserved rooms, enjoy the hospitality of the friendly staff, enjoy a fabulous meal in the dining room, all right in the centre of town. Excellent value for money.
9 people from Singapore stayed two nights. 24 Sep 23 and 26 Sep 23.
We were very impressed. The bed is comfortable and warm. The rooms are also cosy and warm. Mountain view is good, fantastic. Price is very reasonable. No problem with virtual check-in. Just call the number provided and you will be given number to access the box to collect the unit keys. Happened to meet the host, Henry who is very friendly and generous. Didn't charge us when we mistakenly opened a bottle of wine. Refused to charge though we offered to pay. Thank you.
I drove to Queenstown from Strahan after a World Heritage day cruise, rather than stay in Strahan for a second night, as Queenstown is about an hour closer to Hobart. The hotel suited my needs for a short overnight stay so I could take a Wilderness Railway trip. The staff were very friendly. Renovated shower, lovely towels and sheets. It was a cold miserable day and the room was lovely and warm when I arrived. It was convenient to use their restaurant, plenty of choice, huge serve and a good meal.
The accommodation is old and quirky a few things didn't work or broken but it was clean, we had a family room which was spacious. Linen was hotel quality and bed we comfortable. Toiletries supplied. Location in easy right a the top of town so easy to explore from. Parking outside your room. Pub style meal was nice in the adjoining front bistro. Even with the pub (nicely decorated) at the front, the rooms were quiet of an evening.
We had a wonderful stay at Hunters Hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were exceptionally clean and well-kept. Everything had been thought of, from bathrobes and slippers, to wifi and welcome chocolates. Ralph and his wife were the most attentive and lovely hosts. They even prepared the breaky buffet earlier than usual because we had an early departure. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the area!
Lovely building with interesting history- lovely views, gorgeous gardens, surrounded by greenery. Friendly professional hosts. Great attention to detail. Great little self contained guest kitchen. Fabulous breakfast and focus on high quality, tasmanian sourced products. Homemade gluten free sugar free fruitcake on arrival.
Pellow cover, bed sheet, toilet was clean. Room contains electric cooktop, microwave and woven (Though cooking in the room was strictly prohibited). Location was excellent. Community kitchen was good specially the outdoor dining area. The most people of Queenstown. They were friendly.
Beautifully refinished historic hotel in downtown Queenstown was a great find. Our room was large and even came with a gas fired fireplace. Ralph is an excellent host. He very graciously provided our breakfast at 6:30 am as we needed to travel to Strahan to catch a tour.
A lovely spacious motel room with a kitchen, a shower and a bath. Clean, neat and tidy. We arrived late and it was easy to arrange a key pick-up. The view was fantastic - mountains at your step! And the restaurant nearby had fantastic Chicken Kiyev, recommend 100%
Comfortable bed with luxury linen in the small, simple room.
Spotless, very modern share bathrooms.
Charming hotel with a sense of the grand old days. And who cares if the floors squeak a bit, just think of who has walked on them!
The proprietor has spent a lot of time and effort to restore this hotel. This is quite evident in the decor and accommodation offered. He is welcoming, knowledgeable and informative. Overall a lovely place to stay in Queenstown.
Was quiet despite room exposed to main road BUT its Queenstown and very quite....would rebook again in the future...get that kitchen going and the place will be buzzing like the Empire Hotel across the road....
had breakfast at local Puffing train station.. nice and museum historial at Impireal Hotel was brilliant
And also we were running very late to arrive hotel and glad to find keys are waiting for us ..
Beautiful historic hotel overlooking Queenstown. Warm owners who spent considerable time welcoming us; always approachable for advice and good conversation. Yummy breakfast.
