Formed one highlight of walking the Queen Charlottes Trail. Very isolated, charmingly rustic, beautiful views, relaxing outside hot tub.

I have found a new favourite holiday destination in Te Mahia Bay Resort! The location was amazing set on a private beach, the owners very helpful and we were in one of the rooms that is over a 100 years old but has been modernised, but still keeps some of its yesteryear charm, so very unique and special. And these particular units in the resort are truely waterfront, which was a lovely surprise. We tramped in from Anakiwa on a section of the Queen Charlotte Track for three nights, the restaurant was closed for the season but we had access to a full kitchen so just took in all we needed. We just loved it all!
Hopewell Lodge is in the heart of the Kenepuru Sound is easily accessed by boat from Havelock for only $30 per person.

From the moment you walk into Hopewell, you get a feeling you are staying somewhere very special. After a fun and scenic little boat ride to the property (which is part of the experience of ‘leaving the world behind’), we were greeted by warm and friendly hosts and staff. We were assisted with our luggage, along a magical short / easy path through the oasis to get to our cottage. With a view to die for, our cottage was perfect in every way, clean and everything we needed (with super comfy beds!). We could tell so much care had been taken to make our stay wonderful. Do yourself a favor and order the pizzas for dinner , homemade by our hosts. They are humongous and made with delish fresh ingredients. We enjoyed them outside on a candle lit table by a toasty fire, finished off with complimentary toasted marshmallows! We changed things up to prepare our own meals on other nights which we had fun preparing in the best shared kitchen / facilities I have ever seen! There is nothing you want for.. it has everything from basic staples to sharp knives.. something you miss during travels ! (Even includes a huge, comfy living room with a toasty fireplace the staff are constantly stoking up !) We also enjoyed freshly baked homemade bread in the morning for breakfast and delicious espressos (we are from Melbourne , so takes a lot to impress us with coffee!!!). After a long journey around the South Island, we chose to take it easy at Hopewell.. easy strolls around the property to enjoy the breathtaking views, took a bike ride, played and swam in the sound shoreline with our toddler, kayaked, read a book in the hammock overlooking pristine landscape, and an evening soak in the hot tub. But you could do as little or as much as you like, with generous hosts available to help you plan activities as you desire. We found Hopewell absolutely magical, where we got lost in relaxation and making beautiful family memories together.

No one told us that we should have caught the Ferry to Punga...
No one told us that we should have caught the Ferry to Punga Cove from Picton. We drove for hours only to find out that the road was closed for maintenance. Very annoying and we had to wait for hours to drive through a very short window of time to get through. Apparently Booking.com was told by the property, but the Booking.com did not tell us. Disappointing!

Explore guest reviews of hotels in Endeavour Inlet
The hotel was fantastic located on the lovely Endeavour inlet. The view from the room amazing and the room itself very comfortable with a very good bathroom. We didn't have breakfast because were leaving early I so can't comment on that but the evening meal was good and food and drinks were no pricier than the mainland which was nice given that they do have a captive market somewhat. I would recommend.
The cabins are AMAZING! Better than many hotel rooms and apartments we stayed in. Brand new, sparkling clean and stylish!
The hosts are just awesome human beings and they go extra miles to make your stay unforgettable.
It was indeed an unforgettable short stay and the only thing we regret is not booking another day or two in advance.
The hotel along the sound was exceptional. Cabin was clean withe views of the water. Bothe dinner and breakfast were great. Too bad we could only stay as we had to continue on the Queen Charlotte Track.
overall experience is good. punga cove is a beautiful place.lovely scenery and peacefulness.thank you for the helpful staffs to make us feel welcome and settle in a new environment.
