Solo is a more traditional alternative of yogya, both ofer recidence of royalty the sultans ketaton in yogya, the sunsns residence in sole, both have lesser royalty recidences; the paku alamin yogya (clised for public), the mangunegaran in solo (open to public, dance practice on wensday).
The big ineternational know tempels of Borobudur, Prambanan, and candi Sewu are a bit cliser to yogya, the unknow mountain tempels of candi Cetoh, and cand Suku, both set in a beatuful cool mountain setting closer to Solo. Thou all can be visited fro. Both citys. The fames ones are crowling with tourist, while the moyntai tempels ate rarely visited.
Solo has a much more traditional feel, yogya a more modern one, in high season yogya has a much higher comercial presure to wester tourist, in solo you hardley see westeners (except for the art students) you can stay for weeks and not see a western face😉.
Both pruduce batik, in yogya much souvenir products, however the best deals on batik you do in Padar Klrwrr i solo.
I would advise: visit both and see the diference youreself (i've been doing that for 30 yrars, personaly i prefere Solo over Yogya.

Everything in Solo was great. from the people, shopping mall/plaza, food, and hotel.
What i love the most which makes life easy for visitors is the Grab app which is a multi-task app for taxi, food, shops etc.

The city's boulevards are so pedestrian-friendly. Loved the Mangkunegaran Palace, The flea market, and Baluwarti community. Enjoyed street-food dining. On-line taxis are easily available. It is worth driving up to the mountain area of Tawangmangu for scenic beauty, tea plantations, and visit of the Rumah Atsiri Essential Oil Museum

I didn't go around much on my last visit.
I didn't go around much on my last visit. The city overall is relaxed and relaxing. Plenty of nice places to visit, but I just went to around 10 places last time. The traffic was pretty heavy at all times. One thing that bothered me was the quick change of traffic light (10-15 seconds I reckon). When I was coming out of Solo Paragon Mall, I wasn't sure of where to go because Google Maps kept giving me different direction to my next destination. I changed right/left sign and the security was kinda yelled at me instead of helped me find the correct way or asked me to decide where to go nicely.

The food is good and cheap, the tourist places is not well informed to the tourist or visitor. But the most I like from the Solo, beside food, is the well maintained javanese and colonialist building heritage.

Unfortunately, some of the highlights like Kraton and Sangiran were closed due to COVID. Palace was open and very interesting. Guide provided good information and insights. Highlight for me though was a trip we did using a driver (tip;it’s hard to find the places if you self drive) to Gunung Lawu. Fantastic mountain with tea plantations, mountain side villages, ancient temple ruins, and Soeharto’s Mausoleum. I’m not fit enough to hike to the peak, but that would be really special. It’s a great destination for a day or two.
What an excellent hotel, highly recommended! Very friendly staff, colonial style rooms with a lot of space and windows that keep the noise out, an awesome restaurant at the rooftop with outstanding service and a big variety of food and drinks at the rich breakfast buffet. The afternoon tea and coffee around the pool make you feeling like in a colonial period. The manager took care of us personally. When we arrived, we could turn the fortune spinning wheel to win prizes on the occasion of the first anniversary of the hotel.
Nice hotel and good breakfast (wedang roti is my fave). I think it’ll be better to add the cover that can be close if it is raining (if we only have one night and it’s raining then the kids can’t swim).
If you turn left from the front of the hotel towards the traffic light, there’s a Nasi Liwet stall, all their food are so nice, worth to visit for dinner 😉
Interior design is definitely great, very nice vibes and lots of culture references. Staffs are professional and very polite, also helpful. Location is great, literally at the center of activities and cultural sites in Solo. Walking around the hotel area is a great pleasure, although it could be quite dark at night.
I like almost everything of this hotel. The staffs were super friendly and helpful. They responded very fast on our requests. Superb. Room was clean and spacious. And there's free Netflix too. Breakfast was OK. I was super happy of our short stay there. Definitely will come back again.
All the staff were very helpful. But please this message to this hotel's owner, please change your door handle. It is sucks. All Good, but I prefer the a la carte breakfast. So I think the management could consider the same value for both breakfast types. Thanks.
Location: nearby a lot of local eateries & have supermarket nearby.
Is in the main road, maybe recently painted blue (like a castle) or the photos in booking.com is not updated ; we thought we arrived at the wrong hotel.
Staff: Super friendly staff
The position is strategic since is close to the station, many eateries and minimarts. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff is very kind and helpful. I'd definitely book here again if I pass through Solo.
Terima kasih 🙏
not really anything to mention here. it was ok, but nothing was outstanding or even on par with comparable hotels. not sure how this place is rated 5-star, or even 4-star.
the junior staff and trainees were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel was in a great location and the facilities were beautiful. It was nice to walk around the grounds and see all the nice statues and decorations. The temple is great. The breakfast was great with many things to choose from
clean. room was bright and slightly feels newer than other Harris hotels . location was great, walking distance to some local restaurants, foot reflexy, Keris heritage museum. btw, breakfast was great also
for 4 starts hotel, the facilities, location, food, room and cleanliness all worth for the price. And would love to stay again if I have an opportunity to go back to Solo.
Well done Aston! See you again
