Overall, the region was beautiful and there are many lovely towns to visit and much history in the area. Sarlat has a recently updated town square that is quite beautiful. Getting around the town itself is typical of a small French town. Walking is best! I was underwhelmed with the restaurants and the shops. Some areas of the town feel rundown.

It’s such a beautiful city and it has wonderful things to explore within the walls. The whole region around Sarlat is beautiful. Sarlat is the perfect place to rest after a long day exploring other small towns or caves in this gorgeous region. We could have spent two weeks here easily. Take full advantage of the markets on Wednesday and Saturday in Sarlat to get amazing food, and of course, eat at a restaurant and enjoy some amazing wine.

Charming old town, narrow streets, lots of shops, many, many selling local produce, foie gras, etc. Centrally located to visit the highlights of the Dordogne. Many places to dine, seemingly pretty much the same menus everywhere except in a couple of higher end restaurants. It is hilly. Parking very hard, everywhere is payant, get the APP.

Sarlat was an amazing town and a great place to visit. Plenty of restaurants and bars, friendly people and lots of history. We could have stayed longer but only to explore the surrounding areas.
Will definitely stay again

Politeness and a smile opens many doors, I don't speak French well, but was very pleased at how friendly and polite the people were. I mean all the people not just the ones that are getting some financial benefit from you.
Basically, be nice, don't be an ass, and you won't get treated like one.
Take a moment to look at how many men these small towns lost during WWI, must have been devistating.

Stunning, immaculately kept hotel. We stayed in the suite which was spacious, with two balconies, a full size kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Very close to the centre of Sarlat, but with a peaceful atmosphere.
The staff were very attentive and helpful, with attention to detail (a well stocked fridge for drinks) and a sumptuous breakfast in the beautifully decorated breakfast room.
I would highly recommend.
We could not have picked a more ideal spot for our first getaway since the pandemic began! Les Cordeliers is perfectly located just steps away from Sarlat’s Medieval heart of the city. It is elegant yet homey. The hosts are a huge part of the charm; Jeff and Seung-Won are warmly welcoming and attend to your every need and comfort. We can highly recommend Les Cordeliers and I know we will return !
The location close to the busy town centre of Sarlat was excellent and the fact that it had very adequate private parking was superb. The hotel was run by one man who was extremely helpful and gave advice on restaurants and in fact booked one for us. Sarlat itself is splendid visually and historically as well as being a perfect centre to visits the wonderful sites along the Dordogne.
The owners are lovely. They made sure we had everything, explained how the parking worked (look for Place Pasteur to find the hotel) and even went over my list of activities and suggested which ones were not to be missed. The hotel is right on the edge of the old town so walking to restaurants, etc. was very easy. There was a microwave and mini frig in the room.
Very friendly and helpful staff who gave us a great welcome. The hotel is a walk from the centre of Sarlat and we were given recommendations on arrival as well as directions. The room was comfortable and spotless, and the cleaners were very good every day. We sat outside on our terrace every evening and enjoyed time in the pool. We will be back.
The apartmant was very comfortable, clean and warm. The bathroom was a good size with a great shower. Short walk to cafes, restaurants and the historic part of Sarlat-la-Canéda. Parking was conveniently next door giving easy access to to the car which is a big plus in most towns in France.
The hotel was idealy located for Sarlat. A few paces away from the restaurants and shops yet nice and quiet. The bedroom was extremely comfortable, the breakfast excellent. Alisa and Daniel were lovely hosts. Was able to park in their grounds. Would definately stay here again.
Nice country location. Good size rooms. No coffee facilities, but hotel provided a kettle, and this was all we needed , just to be able to boil water. Very good for price and owner/manager charming. About `0 minutes drive from Sarlat centre. I would book again.
The hotel is at the edge of the old town of Sarlat. Our bedroom was very comfortable. The lounge on the first floor of the hotel was lovely. The breakfast was vg. We had a great dinner in L'Ardoise restaurant which is one minute walk from the hotel.
Beautiful room which was very clean with wonderful view - the children slept on the sofa bed which was also very comfy.
Fab breakfast to start the day.
It was the perfect location to adventure through the beautiful Sarlat-la-Caneda.
From the moment we were greeted by Remi at the front desk we knew we were in good hands. He went out of his way to help us with whatever questions we had. David, the manager, has prepared an excellent team throughout the hotel.
la Lanterne is very well situated in the medieval village… we could walk everywhere yet it was quiet.
Joanie and Clay welcomed us so warmly and made sure our stay was perfect. The breakfast was the best we have had in France .
This was a charming small hotel very close to the center of Sarlat on a quiet street with free parking. The hosts were very lovely people and the breakfasts were exceptional. There is a lovely back garden with a swimming pool.
Best evening meal of our France road trip. We were going to eat in the village of Sarlat but decided to eat at the hotel and I'm glad we did. A small menu but delicious food.
Hotels do not get any better than this. If you like small luxurious places to stay - along with fantastic service and comfort, this is the place to spend a few days.
